Good to see you answer in an orderly fashion lol

That graphite, was it a back fill Ive seen something similar around drainage pipes, might be a back fill just to allow for ground movement/heave.

Any alterations in a Kitchen are notifiable, even alterations to existing circuits..along with new circuits anywhere in a domestic....dont know whether the OP has notified.

But as far as i understand, ....he didn't install the cable, either the householder did, or the contractor for the extension did!!!

If this was indeed Graphite, one would have to ask, ....why would there be an intention to make the sheath conductive?? Dammed dangerous if you ask me, on single core cables, especially if it wasn't cleaned off these cables within the ACB enclosure!!!!

Glad to hear the use of cable boots isn't dead as yet in the UK ...lol!!! I'd still consider it to be a dangerous situation if it was graphite on those cables and was left on within the ACB enclosure.... But still can't think for the life of me, why they would smother these cables in the stuff. I know it's slippery, but there are far better compounds than graphite for pulling etc. These cables, were they direct buried or run in buried ducts??

Never heard of graphite used but I can only think it was used as a lubricant to ease installation....is it possible it was not graphite but some sort of teflon compound?
