Seen it quite often where the armour of SWA is not earthed, at all, just removed and cores used as live, neutral and earth.
IMHO this is completely wrong for the first installation (what were they thinking??) and should be rectified urgently if found on an EICR ie code C1/2.

What do you guys think? What code? I'm interested to find out.

Thanks in advance.
Steve.

Code 2 I think, as you are removing the very reason for using SWA in the first place, and if somebody were to penetrate the SWA, then it would not cause the protective device to trip.
Saying that, it is definately not a requirement to bond the armour at both ends, even though it's often beneficial to do so.

OK my bad, not paying attention, obviously I mean earthing to the armour. As the armour is not an extraneous conductive part, there would be no need or point to bonding it!!
Johnboy mentioned bonding to the armour, I merely replied in the same way.
Slapped wrist, I'll be a good boy and pay more attention next time

Used to be a smack round the ear'ole........slapped wrist indeed ?
Finding quite a few glands earthed with 'pyro tags' these days, rather than banjo and bolt. Not my way, but better than nothing, I suppose.

I completely lost the thread of this argument after my cat brought in a mouse and let it loose to run around the room.

IMO smaller SWA cables only need to be earthed at the supply end if an internal cpc is run with the live conductors.
No point in putting stress on the armour under earth fault conditions.

Unless you hit it with a spade and then its good night SWA, regardless

Back to the mouse

Its strange that they leave their kebabs half eaten with blood all over the carpet, they are usually quite thorough, this time not!

I think the mouse was unwell, that's why the cats didn't finish it off....

i`v seen it..(armourings not glanded or banjo`d)....its crap....seen an armoured just flying out of a dis board knockout n all with no gland and no support....that was crap as well....

I've cleaned up the kebab.

I'd agree, there are some poor swa glanding off around.

I have found that using the Wiska boxes with their earthing bars very useful in providing a good mechanical connection while providing a reliable earthing continuity along its length.
