Earthing

Where do you stand with adding circuits to a installation that has the bonding undersized? It's in 6mm and should be 10mm to be up to regs but customer doesn't want it replaced? Can I do the work and advise this should be replaced it's tnc-s

pme is a bit awkward

the adiabatic isnt used to size main bonding conductors, use it to size the main earth then the tails and bonds can be sized in relation to this and the size of main service fuse and if adequate then they can be left at 6mm and noted on the eic.

Bonding conductors on PME systems must be sized in relation to the SUPPLIER'S neutral conductor, not the meter tails.

Got a similar scenario myself went to have a look at a fuseboard change earthing to water is in 6mm looked at the ways of upgrading it to 10mm not a chance tiled floor above kitchen and position of sink opposite to the outside of the house do i just note it down on the eic

same situation really, is it pme 35mm or less neutral (typical on domestic) then a min 10mm or as i stated in earlier post can be left at 6mm if tails and earth check out

Its a tns system will upgrade the earthing to 16mm and 25mm tails the gas is close to the electric meter so no problem with that . I always like to upgrade the bonding but there is the odd occasion when it is not practical or the client refuses the upheaval

i would test all the earthing arrangements and if they are ok and test out, give the 6mm earths a code 4 on your cert.

He would be issuing an EIC so no coding acceptable. He could mark it down on the comments of existing installation if he wished

no need to apologise m8 as you were right in the first instance,he,s only adding a few circuits and not doing a cu change.

HI i need a few questions answered as i am new to the game and starting off on my own!!
I went to do a pir today and the main cables from the isolator to consumer unit was it 10mm twin and earth. the earth is only 4mm on this. is this ok??
I could not find the main water incoming to the property but i have seen cross bonding under kitchen sink which runs back to cu in 6mm, is this adequete??
Its a TNS system with the main incoming in pyro and using the sheath as the earth.
also are the push type circuit breaker still allowed or do they have to be changed to 60898 trip switches?
the landlord needs a passed certificate so needs any works done. cheers for the advise!!

If you're 'new to the game and just starting' why are you doing periodic inspections?Your questions clearly show that you need to spend some time reading BS8671:2008 BEFORE doing any further inspections. You are being paid for your expertise and experience, allowing you to decide if an installation is safe for continued service or not!
