EIC on new build

Hi all
I was recently asked to wire 2 newly built houses but was told by the builder I was to expensive. He has now asked me back to connect the circuits that he has installed to the c.u and wants me to supply an E.I.C which I have told him I cannot do asi can only certificate my own work. What is his best way forward, I want to help him out bacause although I didnt get this job he does put other work my way.

Only way I can think of is a 3 signature cert. He signs for design and construction and you sign for inspection & testing.

Personally I wouldn't touch it.

You could do an EIC that covers the CU only but I suspect he wants an EIC for the entire installation, fire circuits, the lot.

Has he asked you to test it too or has somebody else tested it?

Not sure I'd do it.

Don't want to sound harsh, for all I know he's a nice chap! but if the LABC do make him rip it all out for inspection serves him right, that might be one less builder that cuts corners and takes work away from the sparks out paying to be with a scheme!

Although he does put other work my way. you haven't done the install so don't issue certs. Should have used you in the first place. cheeky bugger.

if only des. my labc dont have a clue and couldnt give a ----. theres always a loophole and im sure he will find someone to issue a cert, they always do

you could do him a PIR. make sure you charge him. then if LABC won't accept. it's his funeral.

out of interest what did you price at?, i wouldnt cert it,how are you able too see what he has done with the cables,he could of run out of 2.5 then lashed together with choc block and all sorts,would the builder like to go sign off an extension if he didnt know how the footings and rsjs etc had been done,no he would not,it makes me sick when they expect us to sign off for them.

I didn't get a chance to give a written quote as I was told I would be paid £30 per fitting and I was to supply all materials, so I politely declined his oh so generous offer.

ok this is my first reply and gonna dip my toe into the water and give my pennies worth, my experience has predominantly been in commercial and industrial. if i interpret the current elec rules and regulations correctly, any *competant* person can undertake a domestic rewire and utilise council building regs facility to sign it off, was that not the purpose of the part *P* certification? admittedly at a cost. i have come across these situations more frequently, and under my former employers NICEIC umbrella, when sent to do these certs, we were not cheap and because we did not undertake the installation the client was made aware that the test would be more thorough, and we all know, how very easy it is to find fault(s). you are there to test not to correct faults. your wording will state fault cc6 db1 etc and not to a specific part of the cct. and will require retesting after correcting. a cert failing the installation or full of faults is no good to the builder and he would incur further costs to call yet another spark in. i think you get the gist. they can be greater value and profit from testing. as for future work the builder has already set his stall out in penny pinching. it is a false economy to have little or no profit, knowing the builder will never allow fat on your jobs
