This thread titled "eicr codes anyone" is posted in the under the UK Electrical Forum on Electricians Forums.

Hi all just carried out a eicr on a Chinese restraint. Below are what I found and the codes I would give any other suggestions would be appreciated. NO BONDING TO GAS OR WATER C2, NO SUPPLEMENTRY BONDING TO PIPEWORK NO RCD PRESCENT C2, NO EARTH ON METAL LIGHT FITTINGS C2, NO SLEEVINMG TO SWITCH LIVES C3, NO GROMMENTS TO BACK BOXES C3, NO RING FINAL CONTUNITY TO SOCKETS CIRCUIT ON A 32AMP MCB C2, JOINT BOX OUTSIDE STANDARD JB NOT IP RATED C2, LIGHTING CIRCUIT IN 1.0MM ON 16MCB C2, SOCKET SUPPLIED OFF LIGHTING CIRCUIT SUPPLYING A FRIDGE C2, SURFACE SOCKET BOX CRACKED ABLE TO GET FINGERS UP INSIDE BOX C1, NO EARTH SLEEVING C3, SOCKET SPURED FROM A SPUR ON 32AMP RING MAIN C2, NO GROMMET ON METAL GLAD SOCKET C3, TOILET LIGHTING OFF RING MAIN NO VISIABLE SIGN OF A SPUR IN CIRCUIT C2, PENDANT LIGHT FLEX MISSING OUTER SHEATH AT ENTRY TO FITTING C2. NO WARNING LABELS C3. Any suggestions would be great.

All pipe work in the bathroom is not cross bonded and the no rcd protection to all circuits within the bathroom would you say this warrants a C2?

I take it you tested the pipework in the bathroom and your EICR will document that supplementary bonding was actually required as a result of your tests. And yes I agree I would C2 if it is needed !

'Grommets' - there is no requirement for them, so why say there is? If there is damage to the cable on entry to the box, then it is different, but you cannot say 'no grommets' without stating why, and what Reg.

Toilet light off RFC? Only a problem if the cable cannot carry the current, but if only one luminaire, then maybe 433.3.1 will apply anyway?

Yes there is Reg 522.6.1 (AG) wiring systems shall be selected and erected so as to minimize the damage arising from mechanical stress eg by impact abrasion, penetration ,tension or compression during installation ,use or maintenance ,also reg 522.8.1(AJ)

Yes, sure, but that doesnt say grommets are required. If the cable is secured, by either clips, or plaster, it will not move, so there will be no abrasion to the sheath, hence no need for a grommet on a metal box.
What about pattress boxes?
They have far sharper edges than a metal box, but it is usual practice to not put grommets on those.
The Reg. requires the cable to not be damaged. If secured, before the box, it will not be damaged, except by the installer when he pulls it through. If one is careful, there will be no damage, hence no need for a grommet. If hamfisted, then grommets wont probably help, as they are so easily pulled off when the cable is dragged through.

Doesn't matter how well you secure the cables , it will move, buildings move , there will also be thermal movement ,every time you insert a plug into a socket the wiring will move maybe slightly but it will be enough to cause abraision

Sure it says absence of earth c2.. C1 in my eyes lol

Everyone to their own opinion and its hard to argue over something that is based on opinion

I would use C1 where the customer is at anytime soon going to bite the dust, if he was to touch that exposed live wire,or indeed if he was about to get fried because his pet rat had eaten the insulation away,he is in other words in immediate danger, that shattered pattress leaving the live wires exposed,it could be deadly

I would use C2 where the customer could very well use the installation without something such as the above happening and could do so for many moons to come
However, if a fault was to occur, because there is no adequate earth, the fault won't clear, for instance,a washer goes fault, the body of it becomes live but no fuse blows, the good woman does the washing, she touches the faulty machine and operates an earthy tap, she could end up being an ex woman
That's how see potential danger, such as no main earth
