Could also be the new onwers "electrician" didn't understand the circuits, and spun the owner a tale to get himself off the hook!

There is a customer service issue or challenge, and therefore opportunity, in this one, whatever the temptation may be to offer the running jump option.

No good you being happy and customer unhappy or vice versa. So how to get to both happy or Win/win? You have a reputation to protect, a potential new customer and a back lash from a lost customer bad referencing you potentially.

There is an existing and legitimate gap between your previous work and any new electrical work (including fault finding) to protect or maintain, and above posts indicate you have the right to walk away. In the alternative, though, consider offering to help. Price the help in hourly, day or fixed price terms. Identify the problem, price to fix it, and offer to do the work. Not saying you need to discount very much but price to protect good will and go some way to meet the customer.

just a few thoughts to offer an alternative approach, cheers.

I know, am more curious, not just about this, but where u stand if people alter stuff after you've certified it, be it any kind of certificate.....

Don't forget that you do not certify any installation with an Electrical Installation Condition Report - you merely report on its condition. It is not a certificate.

your eicr schedule of test results, will show the system has been altered, ie 2 x radials now a rmf, in effect showing a spare cct now.Theres your starter.

Give him the cost of another eicr, then price to rectify... win win for all

I'd tell this jerk to defaecate in his hat and punch it. He isn't your customer. You did an EICR and at the time all was OK. There's then a change of owner, major works and suddenly it's your fault. Crazy!

I had a former customer complain that a board change I did was faulty 2 years after doing the work and certifying it. Transpired the fault was his DIY made electrical appliance that had a fault and kept tripping the RCBO. The NICEIC just laughed.

On the course I have just completed, we were advised to photograph the installation especially if it is a new customer.
Keep them digitally numbered to match the EICR and they can form a defence.
Cheers

Good advice. The on-line Elecsa/NIC on-line software allows your to upload pics to the cert'. You can choose whether or not to add to the cert' you give you client, but always stay with filed cert.

Back feed on which circuits bet they have been worked on and they have messed up !

You Inspected and Tested the instalation back then and reported your findings on the EICR !

Had the same thing a few years ago they could not switch off the lights at the MCB

Fault found at the down stairs 2 gang light switch which had been replaced and got the feeds for up & down mixed up causing the problem then they blamed the decorator!

Let us know how you get on !

Agreed, loss of N further down the network can give wildly changeable voltages If it is tied to earth, then that will go up and down too.
