Hello all I'm looking at going into electric car charging points I've got the course and all that sorted my only problem is I wanted to apply to be a pod point installer but they aren't looking for people I only want to do it if it costs the customer nothing! Because why would they pay for something they can get for free so dose anyone know of any other company's like pod point I could try? Cheers

I'm doing the C&G 2919 a week Monday in derby, 2 day course, I thought it would be worth doing.

Still have to grin to myself every time this subject of car charging points comes up!! And those that have been sold the idea that a fully qualified electrician needs to complete a 2 day course on how to install a socket outlet, with no doubt a level 3 C&G to accompany the course.

So, how much is this 2 day socket outlet course then?? lol!!

There's a course for this?

Surely one just reads the relevant part of the regulations, think about what is necessary to comply and then get on and do it? Or is common sense and independent thought illegal now?

Not familiar with this course but perhaps it's more focused on issues of 'where' you might install rather than simply 'how' - eg petrol stations

If it's just electrical then I can't see the point either.

I done it, was free from a gov grant, 2 days to learn about 3 hours worth of info

pretty basic stuff really

the commercial installs a bit more in depth

in a nut shell the main point of the install is they must nearly always be tt installs from the existing earthing system(you must not export pme to the pod) except in single family dwellings

tns is to be assumed as potentially a future pme system and must also be rodded

supply cable must be 4mm 16a mcb minimum

type a rcd protection for pod

there you go no need for the course now all done!

pretty much all the big companies like british gas are doing them for free so the small companies like us wont get a look in, as usual, unless they want to sub contract off them for ridiculous money

long story short, 2 days wasted off work

I'm just doing this two day ourse at the moment, going back tomorrow, I have to say its all very basic, it's focused on more the paperwork side of things and things to watch out for, nothing to do with how to fit it to the wall etc, I have only done it because I thought it was worth knowing a bit more and having a better understanding. I know it's all obvious and basic, but it's nice to confirm to myself that it is as simple as thought.

Its been handy for me to speak to other people to get information on how to go about getting paid etc to install them and so on, like I say, it's all very basic common sense stuff. Waste of money? Erm maybe so, a bit more knowledge, so don't feel ripped off.

Like I sy above, it's not about installing them as such, it's just about the situations and positioning and different bits of paperwork which if you had to find out from googling you my not pick it up, so it's nice to be told and generally chart with others.

Before I started this morning I was more than aware of hot to install them and multiple earthing systems and awards etc so it's not thought me a great deal, but I guess it's another string in the bow or whatever the saying is.

Just an update, no practical exam as such, bit of paperwork, nothing else, oh and a multi-choice that I got 97% on, so whats the, probably 1 question wrong, dissapointed with myself, think i should hand my tools in.

Level 3? Really? More like level 1.

I contemplated doing this course but figured i would enquire at local wholesalers to establish how many pods etc they have been asked for and sold..........

answer was not been asked and not sold any at all in my area.

Not sure if its worth considerin now

I called my local Edmundsons today and they, i dont think have sold any from the way the conversation went.

Does anyone know how you claim the money back etc? I am on the understand from someone I have spoken to today, you contact Rolec, they send a pack out, you register with the ENA then you claim the money some how?

Does anyone know who you contact to claim the money from and how much you can get?

As far as I am aware even though they are being promoted by the government the incentives are only through specific schemes such as BG and links one and four in my post#2.
I did look into it about a year ago and could find no other funding method other than using one of the schemes.
The only way I could do it free for the customer was to work for one of the schemes and hope I got the local job, so I never went ahead.

I could have got this entirely wrong though, this was just me trying to sort a quote for the customer.
