Hello all I'm looking at going into electric car charging points I've got the course and all that sorted my only problem is I wanted to apply to be a pod point installer but they aren't looking for people I only want to do it if it costs the customer nothing! Because why would they pay for something they can get for free so dose anyone know of any other company's like pod point I could try? Cheers

To do the free installs you have to be registered with the relevent Government department (OLEV), part of that registration includes data on the charging system(s) you install.

I've recently gone through this with Pod-Point and they give you a completed OLEV registration form which you fill in with your own personal details and email it off to OLEV. About 6 weeks later OLEV get back to you that you're registered and can start installing the free installs.

Pod-point also help you with the form etc. once installs are done.

Trouble is with this is out of the ÂŁ1000, you only get about ÂŁ280 and that is supposed to cover your time and materials. Not spending too much time on this myself at the moment because there's just no enough margin - Type A RCDs costs about ÂŁ80 alone, then on top of that you possibly have to get a garage CU, cable, earth rod/box etc.

Also these car chargers need to be on a GPRS system, many places in deepest Dorset can't get a mobile signal for that as well!

Some of the other car charger manufacturers may do a similar scheme.

Thanks for this, ill wait and see what Rolec say tomorrow, from my understanding from someone else, they pay upto ÂŁ1200 per install. I can by the Rolec Wall chargers, 32A for ÂŁ370 so, if i can even get a ÂŁ1000 there's plenty in it.

With the range on electric cars still being limited wouldn't a long extension lead connected up whilst driving be a better idea?

Had the Toyota Prius as company car. Only way it could be considered economical would have been vertically off a cliff. Only got mid 50s mpg get more out of a 2 litre diesel.

So much crisp about environmental stuff! Back to the good old days lead based petrol at 30p a gallon and a government of no muppets not ruled by a country we beat in 2 wars.accepted we can't beat them at football.

Here Ends the rant!

I agree, but its only the way the worlds going, we all know hybrids are going to take over, maybe not today, but more and more are being sold, so its probably worth at least having a look at it, no way am I buying a hybrid, but if I can make a few quid off the back of it, so be it!
