Hello, got an electric fire to fit, they want it on a switch. Only 2 sockets in room and 1 is a spur from the other, is there anyway i could use that supply?? Also wooden floor that they dont want taking up.

Thanks.

well, anymore than 3 kw puts you over a fused spur rating of 13 amp.

3000/230 = 13.04A

If i was doing the job than i would give it its own cct if there is room on the board.
use 20 A breaker and 20 A d/P switch for example?
Taking into account ref method for cable sizing? maybe best to find out the size of fire first?
just food for thought?
hope it helps?

Thanks for the advice, will see what rating it is first but they want as least disruption as possible so own circuit may not be possible.
Thanks.

Change the supply to a fused spur, feed sockets one two and electric fire switch(just as well use another fused spur) off the supply fused spur

I would think, the 3Kw rated fire will take 12 ish amps rather than over 13, due to the supply voltage likely being greater than the 230 volt figure for load calculations

Better off with a lower rated fire though
No flexibility of installation = they get only whats possible rather than what may be wanted

fair comment about the supply being more than 230! old school rule of thumb!

3000/240 = 12.5 A

adding the fused spur as part of the ring main would comply with regs being stated as fixed eqpt, but fire cannot be more than 3kw, otherwise a dedicated cct would be req would you not agree.?

:)

The rcd spur being fitted is probably because there wasn't rcd protection of that supply.
