I can verify this. One of my customers bought a cheap set of electric gates. They were a nightmare to set the opening and closing parameters. They worked perfectly until the key fobs stopped working. I got called out as it had lost all its settings for no reason. At least I get paid for every visit as I never supplied them!!Make sure you purchase a good quality electric swing gate system, or you'll be a regular visitor to this job, and all unpaid under warranty for a year!! lol!! These electric gate systems can be your worst nightmare, so choose with extreme caution!! lol!!
we tend to use belden (yy or twisted pair) for indoor intercoms etc, armoured twisted pair has been around for a few years now, im not sure exactly how long
no we tend to use this kind of beldenbs5308 0.75 tp
sorry you threw me because the bs5308 is the standard cable but the swa version comes under the same nameYou mentioned swa Shanks, the bs was for that.
Boydy
At this point in time, my job is to get electric there, but I'm thinking of intercom and this day n age enough cables there for working off i-phones.
Is it only me who is extremely worried by this FORUM?!
.
No. I'm not getting involved with the gates. got enough on my plate with the house! Gates will be required at a later date so basically getting a supply there in readiness. So re loading, no MI to look at, 1.5mm SWA would be suitable. Distance from CU via the house then outside would be approx 35 - 40m.Is it only me who is extremely worried by this thread?!
I hope you're not installing these gates yourself driverman?!
If all you are doing is supplying power then you're looking at no more than a few amps. Most gate supplies are fine on a 6A B type.

Especially when they decide they want 2 lights at the gate too!Err on the side of caution and run 2.5mm, I highly doubt it'll need more than that.
Last gates I worked with I ran in 2.5mm but the run was a lot longer.

And under driveway heating
The last electric gates I looked at, they also had the lights controlled from the house (as well as the gates). Plus video phone as well as audio, and a separate security camera.
