mmmm had a call from landlord saying tennant getting shock from phone point
mainly when it rings. that's 120V A.C. gives a jolt but not sufficient current to be fatal.
Your sweaty hands might give you a small tinkle
Could be one of those fancy metal phone socket face plates that got a fault on it.

May I ask where you got 120v A/C from?
Telecoms has always been -48v DC with equipment running at -54.5v DC
yes 48V d.c. but the ringer signal is/was 118V a.c. this was required to ring the bells on the old rotary dial analogue phones. don't know if it's changed.
