For those of you who are interested in coming to Canada i have started this thread to give you an idea of what the work is like over here.

As ever, if you have any questions regarding the differences in methods/terminology etc then please feel free to ask

First three pics are some pipework, 70% of what you do over here is installing EMT and pulling wire through it.

Next are some typical panel shots

Then, me installing rod for cable tray in a 600,000 sq foot building. Thats a lot of rod,
its -30 degrees inside and the ceiling is sheer ice.

Then, an outdoor car park plug, I mounted and wired over 50 of these in temperatures of around -25c

many more to come......

So if i am thinking about working in canada (B.c) as my Girlfriend is a canadian,so what would i need to do, Regs, licence etc..... my friend (not a sparky) has told me about a journeymans red stripe quals, Help !

Richsand it's been 80 - 95F since early June and will be until September. As hot as Mexico most days, no humidity and No rainBrengun1 - I wear good insulated work gloves but take them off to manipulate small screws etc. I find that I get about 5 to 10 seconds before the glove has to go back on. You just have to get used to stripping wire and handling things with gloves on. When it's below -30 most metal parts will stick to your hand which can be nasty. You just have to be fast and tough

Guys -To avoid repetitive questions please Read the whole thread. My advice is to pick where you want to live, go there and try and land a job. You can also search online for immigration agents and do the full permanent residency route for a few years. Those guys asking about "red stripe" qualifications and "how do I get a Visa" should maybe think about paying someone ÂŁ6000 to do this for them. I cannot stress enough - you have to be a "go getter" regarding this and unless you know exactly what you want to do and where you Want to go then you will find this very difficult.

hi so to move over to canada from the uk do you have to have the same qualifications to go over there? ie if i done my level 2 is that sufficcent enough for me to get into the field of electricians or will i have to complete the 17th edition here and the rest .thanks

Hi Romans,I considered Canada myself but when I realistically looked into it I think the missus would have seriously struggled with the cold element!!!

I remember initially looking and found that certain states sponsor you to go out there as their pretty desperate to get sparks on board?

Interesting to hear that you can't just do the red seal and automatically become a spark,I was looking into the industrial side of it myself and the wages were pretty good.

Living costs were more than I expected though and the poor exchange rate (from ÂŁ-$) also put me off a bit.

Great to see you doing well though.

Is fort mc money still thriving?that's where I fancied going for what I calculated as $400 per day!!!

Any electrical issues that have been neglected can result to dangerous situations such as electrocution and electrical fires. That is why it is very necessary to hire a licensed and reputable like the long beach electrical work professionals to do any electrical work for you.

Vaughant: Fort Mcmurry is worth it if you can get a company to sponsor you. I had a job offer with a native owned company opperating there this year: $200k plus up to $150K in overtime. Problem was, as soon as they realised I was British and they had to go through the LMO/ sponsorship program, they retracted their offer due to previous sponsorship letdowns i.e. Foriegn nationals not able to cope with conditions.

I've been visiting Canada for five years and usually do three + trips a year. I camp in the woods with the bears and coyotes, I fish for Salmon and trout in remote places. This is the life you can have, if you can adapt to the conditions and wildlife. Unless you want to be a pussay ---*d city slicker ;)

Check out these photos from this year. And this is only an eight of the trips we did from June to September 2011. Camping every weekend!

So does Canada sound and look like the place for you? I think all the above outways the cold, the wet and the snow. (Sounds a bit like England right??)

Anyone want anymore info about life in BC email me. I might even be able to find you a job and help you through the imigration process as we know way :)

First off Love the conduit work, I have had enuff of England and canada is a major move I wish to make as I have family in the U.S. near canada.Could U give me advise on who/company I can apply to for a job out there?I am a fully qualified electrician with 2330, 2382, 2377 and 17th Edition along with ELECSA registration but want so badly to get a foot in the door to go canada. I would be in your debt of anyt advise you could give to get the ball rolling. I know they make it hard to get out there otyherwise every joe bloggs would get out there.
Sorry read the rest of the thread and want to know realisticly what is the average pay per month and if you dont have ÂŁ6000 to get someone to help you emmigrate(just for work) to canada then hows the best option to do this?

Pay here is $36.50 an hour, 40 hours a week, paid every Two weeks.
It's gone up twice in less than 12 months.
We just get a letter basically saying "here's more money, stay with us"

Just decide on a place to go and then do all you can to land a job.
It will still cost you a fair amount of dough but you really shouldn't be giving anyone ÂŁ6000 to fill some forms for you.

Beautiful winter this year.
