I am totally confused it used to be easier years ago (I think) you
1. Served 4 years and passed electrical regulations and principles course B (Approved) A being electrician and C being technician but no B no job
2. Spent 2 extra years improving to obtain my approved card but only with my employers agreement
3. Returned to collage for the 15th then the 16th then the 17th
4. Completed the Select course on Inspection and testing

I served my time in commercial/industrial moved on to Intruder alarms,HVAC/BMS controls then building maintenance and now domstic property maintenance and I keep asking myself what hoops are some of these snotty nosed kids want me to jump through now as I have said before this should get clarified with a definitive explanation but then again negitivity creeps in and me thinks jobs for the boys who are meant to manage all of this yet funny thing is if I am a "Eastern European" electrician with a card that the ink is still drying on then I expect my human rights to be recognised and let me ply my trade in all EU countries and employers will fight to uphold these rights as long as they get to pay lower wages.

Funny old world isnt it

And that fella is what its all about, lower wages. The liberal elite have been desperate to undermine the wages within the construction industry for years.

and ther is a good reason for this. they want all public sector buildings jerry-built with a short life span, so as to avoid public outcry if they say" we're now bored with this building, we want a new one" when they can now say " our building is unsafe so we can justify millions of taxpayers cash building us a new one, preferably with a river/sea view to combat the stress of contemplating our index linked pensions". that's my rant for the day sorted.

i like your quote you are spot on (ÂŁ40 to fix your light: ÂŁ50 if you watch me: ÂŁ80 if you've had a go yourself)

nic/eic is the easy way .costs dosh .apply pay your fee.they come out to see 2 jobs .scared the crap out of me the first time .been done 6 times now .costs thoundsands of squid over the years .had to get new fluke all in one. insurance. not so bad now as i have the same guy 3 years. to start made me jump through hoops. .i allways take a day off work check my paper work .get the jobs lined up.
really no so bad once u no the way things work .sill dead money. better in my pocket and all that .
but if its what u got to do do it.put your prices up thats what i did.lucky i only have 4 years to go .glad i am not kicking off now cheers johnny b

Remember doing the 236 parts 1 and 2 then the B followed by 2 years at night school at my own expense to cover the C. then it was the 15th 16th and 17th courses. not to mention the H&S courses (Which were a joke) That gets you a jib gold card at electricians status. Then there was the 2391 to get the approved status. Loads of responsibility and stress gets you a jib platinum site managers card. And when you join the NIC as a qualifying supervisor the whole lot means jack **** because they completely ignore all your years service time served or not and charge you for the pleasure of being assesed by one of there self employed cant get a job anywhere else guys.
On the other hand if your interested in being a kitchen fitter type sparkie you can join the nic and the likes by doing a nice little part p course. and that gets you a nice NIC sticker on yer van for a fraction of the cost and work and experience. So what is a Qualified Electrician ?? Don't know any more lads, really don't know. ???????

do the work the best you can go the extra mile i have. been working for some guys 39 years .

happy christmas buddy chees johnny b

Happy Christmas to you to mate, Its part of the sign writing rather than stickers, but we pay enough for the privelige so why not. As for needing them ?? well what ever floats your boat.
Me and my partner are stacked out, and like you we have customers on board from many years back. If you do a good job and charge a fair price, your reputation will be where it should, and the work and recommendations will flow. So once again have a good one John.
