Thank you for all getting back to me. The reason I ask is because I didn't get checked out afterwards and I have trouble with anxiety which I have only just realised had started around the same sort of time.
I was just wondering how many currents went through my body if any.
I was wearing cotton socks.

Thank you for the correction from electrocuted to electric shock.

So I have been looking it up recently and supposedly could have got a heart condition such as atrial fibrillation, from the shock. Just wanted more information about it so I can further my knowledge. I think it's evident I don't know much about electrics.

I'd see your GP to be honest and get a referral to get checked over then look for advice on here.

I think it's a bit late to get looked over after an electric shock, given it would have been some 7-8 years ago
Just to confirm that the OP doesn't have a heart condition, not great combination anxiety and thinking that you have a medical condition.

The girlfriend did some work in the past at the National Autistic Society so I learnt from her a few things and trivial things that get people wound up.

Bit like on here I would just have to place someones tools in a different place and they would fret........

I'm merely interested because apparently atrial fibrillation can be mistaken for anxiety disorders. I'd like to know which one I have and now I have a sort of lead I feel more comforted that it may be due to the electric shock and therefore atrial fibrillation. Anxiety disorder isn't an easy one to get over at all

One member, a while ago, reported that he’d gone up into a loft to do some work and I think put part of his body on an open JB and could not release himself from it due to the muscle contraction and could smell his burning skin. It affected him big time.
I think of him every time I open that hatch and launch myself in - we have no idea what is under and in that insulation.
Let’s all be careful out there - and for those that don’t go in lofts anymore, mind how you cross the road!

Ex bother in law works in a heating plant in Poland and years ago one of the maintenance guys stepped in to one on the machines/generators to do the routine maintenance, it wasn't shut down properly, i think he got something like 4000V through him and it cooked his body from the inside out, it was an unpleasant death.

i had a lucky one 25 years ago was working on light fitting at my elderly mothers after she asked me to look at for her simple job to replace an old and brittle rose

i killed the circuit at the consumer unit beaker told every one in the house its off and to not touch it with a good lecture put two chairs in fount of the dam consumer unit cabinet told her the lights would be off

theirs me up on ladder changing rose plate as well

next thing i know buzz buzz and i got down the ladder faster than i went up it.

the silly cow had gone in the bath room when they light dint work
asumed the fuse had blown

somehow forgot about the ten min lecture i just gave her not to go near or let any one near the consumer unit and the fact that i told all the upstairs light would be off to i was finished

and the reason why it was so important not to go near it

moved the two chairs and flicked the breaker back on while i and hold the dam wire

thankfully at time only had hold of one wire and only got a small buzz

few seconds early i have completed the circuit across both arms

the stupidity of some people sill amazes me

i always take the breaker out and keep it in my pocket since
Better off fitting a mcb lock and warning notice next time;)

That must have been traumatising smelling his skin burning and unable to stop. I'm glad it wasn't serious for me.

4000volts sounds like so much. I hope it numbed and wasn't too painful for him.

In my original question I wanted to know what jolt goes through the body, on the mains it's 240volts but how many amps go across the body?

The current would depend on the resistance of the body, which can be lower if wet from water or perspiration. Although electric shocks can interfere with the heart's rhythm, the articles I've read so far would suggest that this is mostly a result of pretty serious shocks which result in some burn marks but that was only from a cursory look. If you are concerned I would suggest seeing your GP, they can take your pulse and listen for irregularities. You could check your pulse yourself. Your anxiety could be a psychological result of your shock or it could just be coincidental that other issues causing anxiety arose around the same time (or indeed led you to act carelessly).

Next door neighbour said he got checked out for a numb foot the other month. He's been retired many years and they were asking whether he used to be an electrician and got any big shocks in the past. So it's presumably a possibility for residual damage and I'd agree the docs are the people to ask.
