Emergency lighting

A old school i do some work at has a number of non maintained emergency light fittings. On a number of occasions when i have been there doing other work quite a few have been on,not all and not very bright.
Why do you think this is ? ok so they have a permanant live going to them and when this fails they activate, but why the faint glow ? it as if they are registering a power failure and working.

Any help appreciated ,short of replacing the fitting i could not really offer an explanation.

they will look dark in the light but when pitch black you will be supprised or they are bad fittings do they get tested if so cant be batt and if they work cant be tube they r just crap

Just check the emergency lighting log book, it'll be with the fire alarm log book, you'll be able to see the results of annual 1 or 3-hour drain-down tests and monthly short duration tests, all in accordance with BS 5266.

God, I'm dreaming again......

Knackered not worth the time. Replace with a nice new shiney one
