Got my hands on a emergency light today I wired it up, thinking it could come in handy when I have got to get in lofts, turned it on and the fluorescent tube blinks then go's off when I turn the power off the emergency light works perfect, could it be a faulty ballast ? I'm a qualified electrician

Sounds like a non maintained fitting to me, these dont light up when a supply is present, they just charge the battery, then once supply is lost hey presto they come on. Is there a green led lit up when your supply is connected?

Im guessing he's rigged it up with a socket on the end, which begs what MDJ said...why not use a headtorch  makes zero sense.

And even if i was going to wire a light to help me see, i think an emergency fitting would be the last on my list. Got to a be troll thread.

Lol head torch means lots of battery's, I didn't think it a non maintained fitting as the tube lights up for a one second and as a switch wire in put marked up on the fitting, yes they is a l e d light in the fitting witch remains on
