Exploding Lamps

Goya call from old lady saying over the past year she has changed around 40 lamps ( some exploding ) in her bungalow !! Other than cheap lamps any ideas ? Different light fittings I am told.
I am going to investigate on Thursday any pointers?

Cheap crappy lamps is usually the case 90% of the time ... on a lesser common cause is over voltage or mains transients ... check the Voltage at its origin and ask if the lights flicker occasionally during the week.. this may be a sign of industry close by starting up large machinery that can cause mains transients with side effects variable depending on the characteristics of the supply and machine.

I've had similar issues in a building that had a 3-phase DB and the main neutral was burned and poor termination, it caused high L1-N & L3-N voltages. Even if the house is single phase it could be a similar fault upstream on the DNO side so test the supply ZN and N-E voltage etc.

Not 110v bulbs are they, had a customer trying to put these in his house before with identical results

I had a job last year with high voltage, she got into her supplier and all seems good now..

Or it could be a power surge

I have seen several of the 42w GLS Halogen lamps explode recently - mixed manufacturers including Lyvia, Philips and Osram. We have had several power-cuts recently which have coincided with a few of them exploding.

had a phase here with bulbs exploding, but now 'er indoors has confiscated my air rifle.

Well chaps nothing a miss ! 243v ZS low neutrals all tight only thing is the lady's carer (as she's in a wheelchair) is buying Asda lamps so advised some better quality lamps in future. Will have to see how it goes.

Reminds me of an old lady a couple of years ago,She'd been given some energy savers free by the gas board,"they're supposed to save me money but I don't like the way they beep".Turned out the old dear had a smoke alarm in the hall with a low battery.
