Hello, Was just wondering if its ok to join cable with wagos inside some trunking so new cables can reach down to new cu, never thought about this before but was given the idea from a mate of mine who a spark.

My way was always use a big junction box with a load of wagos which was 1. a little mess'e inside and 2. a big box above the csu (not good to look at)

I think the rule is (the one I live by anyway), live parts should only be accessible with use of a tool.

So IMO having terminals in trunking is a no go, but we have all done it lol.

Crimp them and heatshrink

Wagos ?
They are those push fit contraptions that are allegedly maintenance free
The only push fit connection I have used are in crappy enclosed light fittings and they fill me with no assurance whatsoever of a decent connection
I have great suspicion of any joint that relies on a push fit contact, and would not fit those in the near future, or ever, without having my attitude to them dis proven

Well I'm not going to try and change your opinion as like you I'm suspicious of the push in terminal. They are used quite a lot on the continent, and though the manufacterer maintains they are maintenance free the regs still don't recognise them, unless you go to reg 120.4.

Even the new admendment, has changed regulation 526.3, but only for connection of equipment and not IMO for WAGO type connections to be maintenance free.

never used wagos. i use the helacon push in connectors. they make a perfect connection with solid core cable. as regards access with a tool, you need a tool to remove trunking lid!

In my opinion wagos should only be used inside a box which contains a cable restraint, such as a wagobox. I don't like the idea of putting any junction in an inaccessible place but have a few times used these when there were really no other practical options.

the best joiting in trunking , IMHO, is butt crimps. take up the least space, cheap as chips.

Butt crimp for me too, everytime. I must be a bit roughas something that is crimped in trunking, I don't normallt bother with any heatshrink tut tut:eek:

Wagos are rubbish for this sort of connection IMHO, as its not a through connections. So your cables are coming out of the Wago at daft angles. They also take up loads of space compared to crimps.

got to be crimps , cheap tidy, and conforms! also very pretty with all those different colours
mind you theroretically crimps are only meant for stranded conductors ! not solid ,
tut i not so sure now ! sometimes its best not to think too much

pyrotenax through joint/sleeve kit includes thro. crimps (solid cores )

yours benji

i have no real experiance with mi,and such , but i do know the general butt connectors commonly used on pvc cables are really designed for stranded but just about everyone uses them for both myself included,

best regards
