So if butt crimps are used inside trunking is there a need for the heat shrink and do you need to somehow clip the cables ?

I use crimps to extend in a CU if I need to. Also use heatshrink. Make sure you take a R1+R2 reading before committing the heat shrink.

I like the Wagos! I do a lot of loop-in at the switch and they are perfect for that. I also use the Ashley junction boxes, bit pricey and you have to give the push fit a good pull to make sure there in tight but they save loads of messing about. Though if i was to extend cables that way Id use a box with cable grip as mentioned.

i use a combination of both really, in my opinion they both comply, the wago's make a solid connection as well as through crimps, much quicker too!
Horses for courses really!
