You gave the example, the MV OH line cable termination. No gland is used, the armours are terminated with a copper braid tail as the earth. The braid is taken out of the bottom of the boot.

Give us the example where a SWA cable doesn't need glanding??

If you're using it for mechanical protection properties and not *necessarily* needing to earth it end to end....for example rodent protection in a loft - glanded / bonded at the source but you might not want/need to repeat at the other end or have space for a dappy. 3 core, obviously.

And before someone shouts 'can't do that'.....you take a returning earth cable off your conduit runs, then, do you?

Checked that video out, thought that the guy was a bit sloppy in places!! lol!!

Then went to have a look at the cold shrink terminations video demonstrations. Never used or seen them used before, and to be honest i wasn't very impressed. If these terminations cover 2, 3, or 4 cable sizes i wouldn't be trusting them on the smallest size, i'm sure that the ends of the cold shrink wasn't sealing on to the cable very well. Think i'll stick to specifying hot shrink, where important sealing areas are achieved by both shrinking and heat activated adhesive... lol!!
