Hi everyone,

After completing college i've finally been given an opportunity to work as a electrical labourer/mate for a firm on a large site in London.Really happy for a chance but abit nervous as ive not really worked on any big sites..think the works gonna be helping with alot of uni-strut and tray

Anyone got any tips or advice?? as i want to try an make an impression and gain as much experience as i can.. is it a case of turn up, head down and crack on..

Cheers for any advice

seriously though.

all you need is pick up a 5set of wera/bacho vde screwdrivers

or any brand that takes your fancy.

a stanley knife, half round file (ask for a bastered file)

not a joke but they call it that.

a hacksaw, dont get the eclipse one with the twisty bit on end they fall to pieces.

tape measure.

so far

screwdrivers
knife
tape
file
hacksaw.

and get a back with shoulder strap. the stanley technitian bag is good for a first till you get a lot more tools

cheers guys, now i've got my tools sorted..i've got another quick question they asked for my UTR number which i gave them, so i'll be working on CIS basis, they emailed me the details for the job, rates etc.. so does this mean i need to invoice the company? Is there anthing else i need to be aware of? I'm gonna ask them when i start tuesday but wondered if anyone's got any advice on this..

Cheers

Not sure about tool belt especially if you have get up and down those towers, ladders all day.

@OP

Good luck dude much much better than domestic rubbish.

most buy worktrousers with tool pockets on them and dont bother with a tool belt.

most use dickes, scruffs or some wear snickers.

they dont usually associate snickers with apprentice workwear either

i was taking the pish,, in all my time on big sites (industrial/commercial) iv only ever seen one spark wearing a toolbelt, he had the pish ripped accordingly, clint eastwood etc.

as said a pair of dickies with plenty pockets will do the trick.
