Discuss fire alarms in the Security Alarms, Door Entry and CCTV (Public) area at ElectriciansForums.net

Visit Channel safety systems and there's quite a bit of info in the knowledge base section. Done a 2 day course with them at the nice peoples head office about 5 years ago, very informative, but fire detection and protection systems are best left to the experts given it to do life saving circuits.

i thought i seen the black wires connected acros the diode and the reds all connected to gether! i had a look at the diargam for a smoke in his van on the way home and it said the -should go across the doide not the possitive?? confused are there any diargams i can see! just wan to get my head around it

Take a look here Installation Guide, Kent UK - Firesense - some clear basic guides.

Generally, the diode should be on the positive side.

Commissioning is something I wouldn't let any one of my technicians do without significant experience, and proof that they know what they are doing, both technically, and Standards wise.

Typically, commissioning refers to the setting up and bringing into operation large fire systems, or analogue systems where specific set up is required.

However, strictly, commissioning is the testing and programming of any system before bring it into operation.

You'll need a lot of time, and a lot of experience, and a lot of learning to get to that point.

bill aka accordfire do you recommend that course provider FIA that lenny posted units 1-9 considering ive no alarm expierience

Yes, I=p/u. the FIA courses are the ones most widely recognised. Units 1, 4 and 5 should help you along. I think Lenny is doing is soon.

Unit 1 is a minimum for understanding fire alarm systems. Unit 5 if you are going to look at maintenance, and 4 if you want to install it....

I have a these modules as a pdf if you want them.... just for reference mind you...

"2 wire" systems, ie Savwire, have sounders and detectors on the same two wires. The sounders are wired in reverse polarity, and the panel reverses the polarity of the two wires, to operate the sounders.
