First job - light hearted reminder of the past.

Not sure if this is in the right section or has been covered before but you first job on your journey to becoming a Sparks.

Mine was when I was indentured with EIL turning up at Whitelys Department store in Queensway to start my apprenticeship I was on a laughable .89p per hour and working with an approved electrician called Ron who would always on the Wednesday blag a £1 me as he liked to bet on the dogs at the bookies.

As it was a department store it played rubbish music done by Telstar and we'd cut the cables as it was soul destroying.

The not so fun part was being tied up in the basement with my nuts covered in swarfega.

First day as an Apprentice, workng in a School in Bath, the sparky had me polishing MICC cables with a Brillo pad

First job I ever took on was in Finsbury park. Called out to a house lights had gone. Carried my tools in a metal cantilever toolcase on to the bus got there and it was a rewirable fuse gone. The customer was Cyril Cusack the actor. Charged him £5.00 and went my merry way. That was a lot back in '74! For instance our rent was £7.50 a week.

Pyro never looked good when it was dull, a good polished pyro install looked the business.

My first solo job as an apprentice, was wiring the basement kitchen of a big house.
Boss dropped me off with the materials, my toolkit & a flask & told me to ring him when I'd finished.
Had to walk a mile to the nearest chippie for dinner in the Middle of winter, it was ruddy freezing. Gee thanks mate

@Vortigern what caused the rewirable to blow or wasn't that in the contract?

Mine was 1st fixing a flat in Bristol, got out the van and had my induction. Walked across to see my gaffer and some bloke heckled 'He is a pretty one, I'd love to f*** him'. I stood there trembling deciding whether to wet myself or cry. In the end I ran off to my boss and he giggled himself silly when I told him. Talk about wet behind the ears!

Not my first job but I remember this in my young idiot days. Was working on a night shoot in the outside tank on the top lot at Pinewood Studios connecting some DC motors used to operate wave machines to their faceplate starters. Was freezing cold and I was pulling the cables up to the motors across scaffold boards which were frozen over and straight in the drink I went, the freezing water took my breath and luckily one of the stunt men pulled me out, those were the days.

Haven't seen Dave's thread on his pyro install, but would enjoy seeing it. Call me weird if you like, but I used to love pyro installs.
Went after a job years ago (sadly didn't get it ), just because the guy I'd have been working with was an Artist with pyro.

At 15 my first job was in a factory that made suitcases. First day they made me put labels on the inside of the lid as the cases passed by. I even got some of them in the middle and right way up

Plus I also made a bit of set for a local college's drama festival entry

Not my first ever day but i remember meeting Paul M at a train station trying not to jump in the wrong van to some random person

Waiting there armed with a gym bag full of any tools I could find in the house, mis matched and no where near vde. We went to the wholesalers and bought me a set of thorman drivers, a level and a volt pen. Some a gift some an advancement.

Still have my trusty fluke volt pen after 4 years and 3 spins in my washing machine.
