Hi guys i'm about to do my first domestic job since the new regs came out, i currently work on commercial stuff and mostly maintenance, and have a couple of questions.

i've been offered a complete rewire of a terrace house, the house has an extension that was completed around 20 years ago, with the kitchen and bathroom in the extension, the owner wants to leave these if possible so long as they are safe, and just connect to the new c/u, i plan to carry out the full tests on these circuits as part of the new certificates,

i noted the other day whilst reading that a full refibished house needs to have mains fed smoke alarms that are linked, is this usually done with a 3 core flat cable?
Also that a percentage of the new light fittings must be of energy saving design?

As this is my first job for a while i'm not part of any approved contractor scheme, i know i have to submit my test results to the buildings authority, but i have just read that i need to give notice prior to commencing the work, is this just a matter of a phone call. or is written approval required?

Sorry for all the questions but i'm seemingly jumping in at the deep end, i am hoping to make a living from this one day:)

Hi thanks for your reply, i'll get on to the building authorities asap and find out about that 17th edition, i tried to book a refresher course a while back but the college weren't running the course due to lack of interest.
