I'm going to look at a rewiring job today. If I get the job it will be the first rewire I have done by myself..!
Any advice please..?

Obvious things - how are the cables to be run? The extra work sinking them in the wall is to be considered. Any laminate floors ? Much furniture? Whats in the attic? Any outside lights required? Who is making good if the job is chased out?

And....who is making the tea?

Best of luck !

Just ran my first rewire for my boss. 2 bed flat all cables clipped in loft and chased in drops doen the walls, Hard but really good experience. Surprising how quick the day goes!! You have got to think quite a few jobs ahead to keep everyone busy and make the most of the time.
Def diffrent to being told what to do on a job bit by bit.
Feels great when it is all done tested and cert signed off!!!
Good luck
just dont forget to liase with client, especially with extras to the original spec.

Few Points. Start with the upstairs lights and don't take the existing consumer unit out until all your new cables are run in, unless you have a temp board. A useful trick to avoid wiring new lighting circuits into the old consumer unit is to plug them into an existing socket.

I fell fowl of this one once,i first fixed a whole house using 25mm back boxes for the sockets and 16mm for the lights, plasterer came in did his bit then it came to 2nd fix customer supplied brushed chrome crabtree flat plate for the whole house,(hadnt mentioned this at first fix stage)

Will never forget the look on his face when i told him if he wanted them all the boxes had to be changed
