hi all,

I went to visit a house for a consumer unit install.

noticed no main earth.

tested ZS at socket near CU and got 30ohm.

Any advice on installation of Earth Rod would be great.

I really need to know how much to charge?
I was going to charge £150 as that is my day rate.

Does the cable that is run to the rod need to be armoured or protected?

thanks in advance

What is the ZE at the input?
With a Zs of 30 ohms there IS some sort of earth... Is there not a rod buried somewhere?

Try and find a position away from other buried services, gas water dainage etc

I use 10mm cable, which, when external, is covered with an outer sleeve or inside a piece of plastic conduit with the rod and clamp inside a terminal box with a label on (6 mm would be more than adequate)but 10mm is my choice only and a bit over the top for whats required

There are proper earth inspection chambers available, but it depends on the location what is best

Perhaps do a temporary earth loop test using a long screwdriver and piece of cable to try out the expected results first

The connection has to remain visible for future inspection,so a box of some sort will give that requirement and protect against corrosion,no need for mechanical protection if you use above sizes
