Discuss Fit rate slashes in the Solar PV Forum | Solar Panels Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

My opinion is that they should cut out the large companies(free solar) moping up the money, and why not promate a green loan system.
1. the fits are kept at present levels
2. let say the maximum kwh you can own is 10kw
3. give pople under certain income levels or/ and savings access to green loans payed for by the present fuel bill levies, ie loan is paid back through fits, after loan is paid back the money is kept by the pv system owner
charge a percentage on the loans

Outcome is pv industry grows creating more work/ jobs, everyone has access to the pv systems, fits fund maintains levels and encurages green energy , reduces carbon foot print. downside is people all pay small levy on fuel bills

...or make everyone over 50ish voluntarily redundant and retired thus generating 10 million new jobs!

This is not being argumentative, rather its a socialist view I hold

Can anyone give me a reason why the taxpayer as a whole should subsidise this cost ?

Why should taxes of a person on perhaps low income, be subsidising the heating bills of another person who may be well able to afford these systems without this national assistance ?

Isn't the system morally wrong, better off folks being given a hand up by poorer folks?

agree, but id also be upset if id shelled out on solar only to be told i wont get the benefits of it,tho im not convinced global warming exists..

Plenty of proof that global warming exists. We're still effectively coming out of an ice age and the average temperature of the planet is increasing. Don't think you find a scientist that'll disagree with that. The only debate is whether or not we are accelerating it with our contribution. That's where you need to be directing your scepticism if you must.

My hope for the FIT is that the 4kW rate is reduced sensibly to reflect falling component costs, so the net result to the system owner is back to the 10 year payback and 8-10% return on investment we were quoting at the beginning of last summer for sensibly priced systems. This should also hopefully thin out the rent-a-roofers and get rich quick cowboys.

yes, forgot that, yes read about that somewhere Julian. And forgot. A 30,000 year one I seem to remember... ?

Good post ta.

what gets me is,when we have a good summer or a bad winter its the best/worst since records began, which says to me it was pretty hot and cold over 100 yrs ago, surely its just natures cycles..

Its just my gut feeling but I feel we have,as a race, absolutely no idea what the planet will do next.

yes, I can see a gradual upward graph trend is cause for a good argument for something but ..... thats assuming it complies with what you were expecting next!

i find the whole solar system/planet thing fascinating, are we the only people out there? we could be aliens to aliens, maybe aliens are use solar panels!! to power there world and laugh at us earthlings sticking them on house roofs..
ps ive only had 3 cans so its not the drink..:willy_nilly:

human alarm men,pah ive shiit em!!!

It isn't the taxpayer that subsidises the cost. It is energy users in general. Therefore high users are effectively paying more than low users. It is a pretty fair assumption to say that high users are high income and low users are low income. When you think of it like that, it is perhaps a little easier to swallow.

The fact is, green energy is going to cost money.

The low income families always have the opportunity to have free solar installed.

Sorry but your argument makes it a lot harder to swallow. Low income families are more likely to be low users because they are struggling to make ends meet. So why should they have to subsidise richer peoples energy bills. Why should any of us have to, come to that.
People in the best position to afford to pay basic fuel bills are more or less getting them paid outright with subsidies from people who can barely afford basic living.
A lot of people having Pv installed are simply doing so because the return (subsidised by FITSs)far outstrips any return from having the money just sat in a bank. Not because they are green.
These Fits subsidies are nothing more than another wealth transfer scheme and I for one will be glad to see the back of them.
This is not a dig at those of you who have built businesses from the solar industry as I have some idea of the amount of time and effort required to run them, and I can see what an impact a cut in FITs will have.
I just feel that the way the scheme is operated automatically bars the less well off and pushes up their fuel bills, whilst making life even easier for those who can most afford rising energy costs.

Why should any of us have to? Because it is a problem that we need to solve and it isn't just going to go away.

Does global warming exist? Of course. It is about as much open to debate that the Earth orbits the Sun or that the moon orbits the Earth. Are we contributing to it? I would say that the evidence seems to suggest that we are. My stance is that we should act as if we are the cause of it. We don't have another planet where we can pop off to if we get it wrong here.

We need to rely more and more on green energy, both for environmental reasons and economical. India and China have thrown a spanner into the energy works and the days of cheap energy are over. If we are still as reliant on fossil fuels in 20 years time then the low income families are going to have more to worry about than subsidising FITs.
