hello all,

who is the best supplier for getting the FIT payments? can i choose any utility company, I'm currently with npower.

thanks in advance.

bump!

i will be having the install done soon, but i have heard that some companies are slow payers for the FIT payments, but which ones?

thanks TedM
I'm assuming that you can get copies of the forms on line from each company, is there anything to look out for? I ask the question as it's a 25year contract that i would be entering into.

Yes, you can change FiT provider anytime you want - within the bounds of normal administrative delays involved in such things.

Things to look out for - any statement, especially by one of the 'big six suppliers' that says they only take on FiT contracts for householders who also have their grid import with them. That's outside of what the legislation allows them to do.

Looks like there are some limitations. This is from Scottish Power's application form: 'To be eligible to join the ScottishPower Feed in Tariff Scheme you must be a customer of ScottishPower or not be supplied by the following companies: British Gas, NPower, E.ON, SSE and EDF'

I believe the majority (potentially all) of the main electricity suppliers have this in the small print. Some won't even give you the FiT application form unless you are a customer, which is an absolute nuisance when you are trying to provide a service.

There's a small difference in interpretation. The legislation requires companies to do a minimum, which they all must abide by. But some companies do offer deals in addition to the minimum that is required of them. The 'big six' seem to do the least they can get away with, while the likes of Ecotricity and Good Energy are prepared to go a bit further.

This is my best stab at covering it:

I'm with EDF for import and was hoping to use Scottish Power for export as they seem to be one of those with a 'better' reputation for prompt payments.

Our office took a call from someone, bizarrely anonymously, suggesting a 45.3p FITs rate for anyone that locks in for 3 years. Exactly why they were talking to us about it, I'm not sure.

Oddly enough, I was talking to someone last night who had been cold called by a company wanting to install PV and they quoted 45.3p. I assumed they had mis-heard.

I have no idea. The person that took the call isn't that savvy about the FIT so she was a bit confused. The lady that phoned is due to ring back and I have asked for her to be put through to me so I'm looking forward to hearing more about it.
