you say pricey.. More than copper im guessing

Yes ..... really silly money IMO. My original trade is a Precision Engineer and amongst other things I used to make special purpose fittings & couplers so I have an idea of how these things are made & what they cost to make.

This place is a mine of info, I have lost count of the amount of links I have picked up on this site which have been so useful to me. I feel almost guilty ( note I said almost ) that my main contribution is a few comments and a couple of jokes. A BIG' UP' to you Forum Members and Site Owners who contribute so freely to this Great place.

Here what your saying mate, but threads like this bring out the' info' in people. There is not one of us that know' everything' but between us, 'we know almost everything', great site+ great people = Great Knowledge.

Enough brilliant jokes to fill a book you mean. And thank you for that. :)

Have to disagree.
The purpose of bonding is to deal with an external PD being introduced to a building. There is no better place to deal with it than the point where the PD enters the building.
I accept that in the case of a gas pipe bonding can be elsewhaere than the point of entry and remain effective....but there IS a sound principle for bonding at the point of entry,it's not just convention or making life difficult.

Explain to me where this external PD is derived under normal circumstances?

I did a job recently, where the water supply was earthed in 6mm as it entered the house in copper and branched off in two directions using plastic push fit fittings all over the place. Got a reading between fittings of >25kOhms, through the water presumably. Suppose you can only do your best.

Missed this post,replying now.
The external PD is derived from the general mass of earth, which is always zero volts. An incoming metallic service is therefore liable to introduce the general mass of earth into an environment which is normally insulated from the general mass of earth.

Not aimed at anyone in particular,Tony.

If it was bonded at the point of entry it's been dealt with. Beyond that point there is no need for continuity therefore the plumber can use as many plastic fittings as he likes.

still waiting to see if there is any bonding there. also, is it possible to run bonding cable/s outside, or to a nearer bit of pipework, saving major disruption, on the basis that anything is better than nowt.

this is it....the 600mm rule is ideally...not cast in stone....as long as all extranious pipework is covered....
