Hello all,
so i will be typing the entire issue -
i just need some advice - my mum has just had her extension done and this builder has charged

6x45 and 8x45 for fitting 14 spotlights in the old and now new living room joined
SO 45X6 =270
45X8 = 360
AND HE HAS THE CHARGED FOR MATERIAL AGAIN ON TOP OF THAT FOR ÂŁ168 -
I JUST FEEL THIS IS WRONG - CAN SOMEONE HELP TO ADVISE -

ALSO WHEN EXTENTION WAS DONE - DUE TO THE BEAM HE USED AS SUPPORT WHEN WALL WAS TAKEN DOWN - DUST EVERYWHERE - LIVING ROOM HAD TO BE RE DECORATED -
HE ALSO PUT A NEW BATHROOM UIPSTARIRS AND NOW WE HAVE RE DECORATE -
HE HAS CLASSED ALL THIS AS EXTRA WORK - AND I CANT EVEN GO INTO THE LIST OF BILL AS IT SOUNDS SO RIDICULOUS TO ME -

WAS HOPING SOMEONE WILL KNOW A BUILDER WHO COULD HEP GO THROUGH THE QUOTE AND SEE IF HE HAS ACTUALLY BEEN FAIR OR NOT -

BILL GOING TO ALMOST 14THOUSAND POUNDS OUTSIDE THE 33600 BNUDGET FOR THE EXTENTION AND NEW BATHROOM UPSTAIRS -

Do you know the Make/model of the spotlights fitted? Have you definitely got those figures the right way round? ÂŁ45 per light for materials doesn't sound too unreasonable for LED downlighters if they are decent quality fittings. And ÂŁ168 total labour to fit them doesnt sound too unreasonable to me either.

Did you get an electrical certificate? Sounds cheap to me, is the work good? It always astonishes me that people are surprised knocking a wall down causes dust. Did you get planning permission and building control approval?

The spot light he bought u have checked on line and it costs 10quid....

So he has charge 45 quid per fitting of 1 spot light 14 In total so that's 45pounds x14 spot lights that's 630 pounds in total fo 14 spotlights..i would have thought the 45 pounds per fitting would cover the spot light material and workmanship? Or is that not the case please?

ÂŁ20-ÂŁ40 is the going rate for a decent LED fitting. The extra material may be for cable, sleeving, cable clips etc..
Also why is 3/4 of your post in capitals? Most people won't bother reading it.

Building work aside the electrical work you list sounds quite cheap for Romford, the average labour price for fitting a downlight is probably around ÂŁ50. I cannot comment on the 14k over and above the original price. Were these types of lights specified in the original quote or was the original quote for a single pendant? The thing you have to remember is that there are massive overheads in running a business such as liabilities insurance, indemnity insurance, vehicle costs, fuel costs, tool costs, testing equipment costs, testing equipment calibration, scheme membership, training, accountancy, oh and paying tax! Any job is not all profit (I wish it was!).

average fitting cost for led lights is around ÂŁ10 per lighting point. In some case the electricians will responsibly recycle your old CFL lights. So 10GBP is OK
I wouldn't get out of bed for it, and we are significantly cheaper this side of the pond. ÂŁ10 labour a downlight, no chance, not even close
