The system works in either landscape or portrait, but Renusol have not done the relevant calc's and had them signed off to issue a warranty for portrait orientation, or at least that is my understanding of the situation. It may be because the clamps would then need to be fitted on the short side of the panels, but I am not certain on that.

Fortunately most of the time they are used on large commercial roofs where landscape or portrait is less often the deciding factor in achieving the required W/P of a system.

Do the rails have to be mounted vertically up the roof then?

The system works without rails SC - The "base anchors" are tec screwed directly onto the sheet. These have a profile on the top that fits the standard Renusol clamps and the panels then clip directly onto the base anchors. As you don't need rail or extra fixings, the system is much cheaper than others for this roof type. I'll send the Renusol info on them over to you on your email. Cheers.
