Discuss Flat Lighting Issues in the Electrical Wiring, Theories and Regulations area at ElectriciansForums.net

There are actually a black and blue cable connected to the black device in the picture.

I'm using this Rolson Digital Voltage Tester
and testing by holding the button and touching the exposed copper wire.

Got some extra pictures to try and shed some more light.

looking at the images it looks like its a look in/loop out from backbox .. all neutrals in chockblock then you got live+ going to com and light to L1

the image is new colours old colours are blue = black brown = red

the voltage tester will only show live voltage it would be better if you got a muiltimeter.. maplins sell a cheap one for about 10.00

not read all the posts, but overviewed. er.......... learnt this the hard way, only dimmable bulbs can be put on a dimmable circuit. check the box that the bulbs came in to see if they are dimmable.common symptoms are buzzing coming from the dimmer, or no work at all. - cause of this is dimmer buggered bcause of the bulbs. dont know yourlevel of knowldge but dimmers also have a max ratig- 400 watts is common. will re read this post tomorrow and see if me out of order, but written ith good intent !!

Same as post above, i havent read it or looked at the pictures, but if you live in the bournemouth area I ill try and pop over and have a look for you one evening this week.
