Fluorescent fitting to bright

Hi Guys

Sorry this is going to seem like a stupid question but I installed a 600 x 600 HF 4 x T8 fitting today and the customer is moaning it's too bright , is there a way of removing a couple of tubes without them all going out ? I always thought if I removed one tube they would all go out.

What colour tubes are they? If cool white then fit warm white tubes instead

Phone the manufacturer, it depends on the circuit and electronic gear within the fitting.

Or you could just look at the internal wiring and work it out for yourself, it's not exactly a difficult circuit to follow.
Or failing that take one of the tubes out and see what happens!

The customer has already tried that .
I wwas thinking that myself but really didn't want to go an hour out of my when there may have been a quick fix.

-What have you got for a cover, is it a diffuser or a reflector?
-Where is it, whats the nature of the space it lights up?
-Has it got control gear that can be dimmed?
-As in post 2 - can you remember the colour of tube, most now get stocked with white where as cool white (more clinical/daylight) and warm white(softer more homely) usually need requesting upfront.

I believe it's warm white or white , definitely not cool
Its has a metal diffuser
Its lighting up a kitchen in a shop

Try putting a standard drop in diffuser into the tile -these get rid of glare that some metal reflectors suffer, they are not expensive but can be a pain to fit sometimes.

When i do stage work we use filter gels ive used them in the past between 2 prismatic diffusers i cant remember the filter numer off my head but if you look at lee filters you should find them there

Not a permanent solution though is it! The gel will be knackered in a month or two

216 is full diffusion and I think 251 is half diffusion. It will certainly last longer than a month, probably a lifetime haha.

Seriously? Gel in front of fluorescent tubes, especially the cold white ones doesn't last very long at all.
Also diffusion filters are not for reducing light output, they are for diffusing it! To reduce light output you need neutral density filters which reduce light output by a specific number of stops.

The stuff we use last for the length we look after it. It only get binned when nobody can be bothered to pick it up off the floor. That's lee, 60 pound a roll. Yeah I know you'll need ND to take the hit off it. I got mixed up reading nick lake post, saw the word diffuser and numbers and thought that's what he was asking.
