"[h=1]About the initiative[/h]The evaluation of the Hidden Killer media campaign demonstrates that tradespeople are increasingly aware of the risks of exposure to asbestos. HSE has developed this Training Pledge initiative with industry training providers to capitalise on this shift and to promote behaviour change by increasing access to training for those tradespeople who are most at risk as part of the wider Hidden Killer campaign.
The Asbestos Training Pledge initiative invites training providers to pledge and deliver free hours of asbestos awareness training. The target is to get 4000 hours of free classroom based training pledged and a further 4000 hours of free online courses: 4000 representing the approximate amount of people who die each year from an asbestos-related disease. This is an excellent example of HSE working in partnership with industry to facilitate the exchange of free training.
These pledges of free training are available for a limited time, and are offered on a first come, first served basis. Independent Asbestos Training Providers (IATP) and the United Kingdom Asbestos Training Association (UKATA) are working closely with HSE to encourage their members to pledge and deliver free asbestos awareness courses, and members of the Asbestos Safety Health Environmental e-Learning Association (ASHEeLA) are being encouraged to provide free online training courses. Working together to promote the importance of training and to keep awareness levels of the risks of exposure to asbestos high mean tradespeople will be better equipped to protect themselves."

good post phil mate they reckon over the next so many yrs that the amount of people dying from asbestos related illness will increase

hopefully a few less mate if they can get the awareness going. not a nice way to go. I have seen a dear old woman near me loose her life due to it. they lived near a factory and used to play with it in the street like snow

yeah mate over the yrs we used to burn it on fires as kids and in my time i have removed some of the corrugated roofing and probably been exposed when working as a elecy without even knowing
but now i wouldnt touch the stuff, now i know what its like but not always easily identifiable

I view my self as quiet "Aware" of the risks BUT havent been trained its just through dealing with it now anfd them and having a neighbour who was a removal contractor helped Just sent link to gaffer to see if they will book me on course n pay for time shouldnt be a problem as its FREEEEEEEEEEE

Umm, not definitive but first port of call should be to see the client aspestos register or survey, maintenance is level two, site survey is level 3, I think. Site survey is destructive, maintenance is visual.

Steels painted white and modern sheathing of plant room plumbers pipework can look deceptively safe, they covered the aspestos with plastic , ITS STILL BEHIND IT sometimes. BEWARE WITH CADDY CLIPS OR GIRDER CLIPS

Just as an aside, we were ripping out and isolating, theres a socket, still live, feeding a trailing lead in a room, barrier tape across the door, ok, thought I, no access. Well the site manager comes along, rips the tape off and says you can isolate this its only feeding a DC unit. Well, being a research facility I thought he meant direct current, wrong in a big way !!! Decontamination chamber for the aspestos removal chaps, their gaffer went ballistic at me, Im not one to point the finger so just took it.
