Can't see a problem with that board. The problem with mounting modern boards side ways is the heat rising. The manufacturer would have to give specific instruction that it was designed with this in mind and was safe do so. 3 phase boards are designed for this but I wouldn't assume the same applies for domestic boards. Just my thoughts.

Seems like one of customers who throws a wobbly whenever they see a 3036 board. The fact that there are three of them, and are mounted sideways, just seems to seal the deal in their mind.

By the way the customer is a letting agent who will almost certainly agree to a replacement if I recommend it.

However I am not that merciless...:innocent: I just want to give an accurate report.
well i for one dont understand all this exitement over semi enclosed fuses to BS3036...
allrite we all know their a bit on the strong side but...
look if it complied with the regs when installed....then whats the issue?..
its not going to be the angle its installed at (horizontal or vertical)...the things you would be verifying for the person ordering the work here would be that the correct wire has been used and your Ze and Zs are good for it (disconnection times)...
further more be sure to check them bonds and dont be afraid to pull it for undersized main bonding if a TN-C-S...
its the condition of the enclosure that counts here as well (including cable entrys)...as opposed to the angle of the thing....

If there's heat rising from a MCB I think you've a few more proplems than its orientation.

I've seen a few mounted on a ceiling in a terrapin ... Now that looks odd
What?! I had no idea they were electric, and assumed they were purely organic. I've examined mine and can't find any screws to get its lid off (I've always called it a 'shell' to be honest), how do you get into it to see where the tiny fuseboard is?
