Gas Bonding

Hi all, another bonding question I'm afraid!

The Gas meter is in a brick built attached cupboard by the properties front door. The gas pipe runs around the outside wall of the house (on the outside) and enters through the kitchen wall.
Is it acceptable to bond near the meter or should it be bonded where the pipe enters the building proper. Hope this makes sense!

You could do either!

I always try and place gas bonding near the meter, so its obvious to anyone (later) that gas bonding is present!

Within 600mm (ideally) of the incoming service (and before a tee).....

Practicality come to mind. Which is the most practical to get to and the shortest run?

Thanks for quick replies, practically its easier to bond by the meter, is there no issue being it hasn't actually entered the main building

Within 600mm (ideally) .....which means within 600 mm of the consumers side of the meter....so in answer to your question....yes.....

Decide where on the pipework you are going to bond it........and be sure to get it bright with a bit of wire wool first wont you mate..........

Do you know the max value of resistance you should be looking for on an R2?....if not then take a look in GN 3....see if you can find it...get them bonds tight n all wont you mate...as they can come slack (due to thermal effects) in time.......:hippy:

i thought the regs said it had to be within 600mm from the meter/main valve but has to be before the first joint ( soldered joint)

but it can also be within 600mm of where it enters the building, so either point would comply.

Yes, but it can also be a compression tee.

(The gas regs do not allow the use of compression joints in inaccessible places - just like sparks shouldn't use junction boxes in inaccessible places - and personally, I try to avoid using compression joints on all gas work.)
