Got a client who asked me for advice he has 10 bunka bin pods each with a 10amp load ( water heater) and a 30 amp maximum demand with sockets and has asked me what KVA generator to get if any one can give me advice so I could pass information on that would be wonderful

HighSpark with the pods at 10 amps each which is 100 amps plus other loads. My experience with generators is they can be 12,000 watt but only come with one 40 amp socket so for get the total wattage because the plug is only give you 40 amps. It sounds like you need a commercial generator which gives out the power you need. Good luck

100A @ 230V = 23000W or 23Kva.
Allowing for a 20% head room takes that to 27.6 Kva.
Are you wanting three phase or single phase.
If you want 240v that goes to 24Kva and 28.8kVA.

Yeah the client will be looking for a three phase generator and just was not sure how a three phase generator is rated would be looking for something with 24+kva a phases

Is that 30A demand the total across all 10 pods, or per pod?

What type of water heaters are they, instantaneous or stored?

Also how long does it need to run for, how often will it be run, is it a permanent location or does it need to be transported to different sites?

On the simple data sheet I got sent and similar pods i have seen there is a small hot water immersion heater (10 amp)with mixer shower and a 20 amp socket circuit with a few outlets where a kettle,microwave,heater could be pluged in these pods will be left at a site don't know how long the units look like this that I have seen in the past

OK, so how long will the generator be running and how often?

10 units is obviously not going to balance nicely on a generator, so one phase will potentially be running heavier than another.

If you're going to be purchasing a fair size genny, get the providers to sort out the requirements. They could install and maintain, if need be...take all the heat (to coin a phrase) off you. Do whatever makes sense.

No,24 accoss all three phases, so thats around 8Kva per phase.

30A load x 10pods x 230v =69KW. Generator requirment should be 86.25KVA. split over the three phases. 33KVA being the common size to cover this load.
This doesn't take into account any diversity so you may be able to lower it slighty to 25KVA if you know that not all the electrical equipment for the pods are going to be used all at the same time.

That's probably a 60kVA as that's the largest Bruno set you can usually get supplied on a trailer, it's small, but not really small enough for what the OP want s

Is the generator the main point of supply or acting as back up? If back up then you have to watch its ability to accept full load current on start up.

Additionally the generator would have to be rated for continuous operation.
