In my 3 storey house I need to fit a grade A LD2 alarm system. Mains connected grade D currently exists in the correct locations but I guess because they are not fed by FP cable I will need to rewire to the new detectors I'll need to purchase, which I am capable of doing.

What I can't do is connect it all up to the control panel and the control panel to the consumer unit. I will also need a certificate. For this I would hire someone.

Questions:

Does the above sound like a reasonable way of lowering labour costs that an electrician can work with?

Does all FP cable need to be enclosed in trunking (even if inside a cupboard or in the loft)?

Is the interlink cable separate?

Any advice for how to get this sorted as low cost as possible? Happy to receive quotes (NW London).

Do nothing without the express permission, and following all lawful orders, of the electrical contractor/fire alarm installer.

I would be employing someone from the outset to do all the installation work, the questions you are asking suggest you are not competent to be doing this.
