I can not rememeber I did it a while back while researching.

Does any body own a cavity wall insualtion blowing machine?

Or do you know where a decent / small / and fairly cheap ones are for sale?

It costs in the region of 30k to set up a cavity team - tools, van etc and margins are in the region of 10% that's why you don't see many small insulation businesses, especially now Cert is finishing. You need to be trained to BBA standard which doesn't take long. I believe second hand machines can be picked up for around 10k but you need quite a big van (luton at a minimum) if you're planning to do it for a while because of the weight of the machine.

It's not practical to use an existing van for the machine taking it out when it's not needed - it needs to stay in place, hence the 30k potential set up costs because you need a dedicated van. Most installers use a class 3 van so it can hold enough material for a couple of days on the road. Teams of 2 installers knocking their pan in on average 3 bed houses can install 3 jobs a day but there's not a lot of care taken and they need to be close together.

Loft insulation and draught proofing are a lot lower risk  the drop off in insulation once cert is finished is going to be so big that a lot of installers are going to be giving it away to keep staff employed - Fit all over again in the insulation industry.

my friend had cavity wall insulation done they drilled a hole and put in the hole a telescopic rod put in the insulation, there way of doing it. the insulation got into the chimney flue and filled it up,when he put his fire on his co2 detectors were going off!! room full of fumes etc transco came out switched of the gas, he then had this company back to sort out the problem and they re inburssed him ÂŁ500,blaming the way the house was built years ago.
not worth going to jail for is it.
imo its ok doing cavity insulation as long as you know the chimney is completely sealed.

These problems should have been identified at survey. Checks on each elevation with a borescope and internal checks would have identified the fire. Shoddy work, but not the first and I bet the ÂŁ500 hurt when they would only be making in the region of ÂŁ50 on the job.

From the above,

Are the Green Deal Providers (who will pay the Installers) going to need to be CIS registered .......

So that means an advance 20% deduction off the labour (for most installers) and hence a breakdown of labour and materials to be supplied to the Green Deal Provider ...... and then all your subbies will need to be CIS registered...
