Hi everyone :)

I'm new to this forum and looking for some advise. (By the way im not a professional, just a DIY'er with some experience working on electrics for DIY projects etc)

In the bathroom im changing my current Halogen spotlights to new LED down lights. The current Halogen lights are connect via transformers etc, however my question is "do i require a LED driver with the new LED downlights" or can they be connected direct?

any advise would be much appreciated

thanks

There are options. Are you using the existing fittings and only changing the lamp?

If your current lights are 12v through a transformer, you need to change it to a driver for LED.
Or, some 230v GU10 lamps will fit the original fitting, so you would have to get lampholders to suit, and a small joint box at each fitting.
Finally, do away with the old fittings and buy downlights that are complete connection, driver and non removable lamp in one unit. Might have to cut the hole a little bigger.

Bathrooms are classed as special locations, so get something designed for such

Personally wouldn’t faff about converting the old light fittings

Just pop to your local electrical shop and buy some new led down lights which match the hole as closely as possible
