Stroma Certification Scheme has anyone heard of STROMA

Discuss has anyone heard of STROMA in the Certification NICEIC, NAPIT, Stroma, BECSA Forum area at ElectriciansForums.net

Replacement consumer units require an EIC and if it is in a dwelling notification to Building Control under Part P of the Building Regulations. There is no such thing as a Part P qualification and an EICR is not related to a consumer unit replacement.

thanks... i didn't explain myself too well. the Stroma man did an EICR inspection over several hours. He did not produce an EICR document at that stage. some weeks later he replaced the old consumer unit (for a metal one in the hall next to the front door.) He has now produced a 3 page EICR with no C1 C2 C3 coding items of any sort, and no mention of a new Consumer unit either being needed or fitted, nor is there a Building Control document. He has not written the no number of years the installation is legal for before requiring a repeat EICR. This is a rented property. That is why i asked if Stroma guys were qualified... as i know some are qualified to inspect and some to install and inspect..... and i cant find him on any register anywhere.... although he has a stroma number. The form seems to have been filled in incorrectly. I am not sure if the house is safe or not.

There is no legal requirement for anyone to hold qualifications for this type of work however membership with Stroma would require evidence of some. You should have received an EICR initially itemising any departures from current requirements which would give you some guidance of any remedial which were required. What was your terms of contract if they have just replaced the consumer unit without producing an EICR.

The terms of contract are with my landlord - i am the worried tenant. I cannot find a list of registered electricians on the Stroma scheme.... is there such a thing - like the NICEIC listings.....

Have you been given a copy of the EICR.
yes i have but...... the inspection was done on 27th april. No EICR was produced then. A new consumer unit was installed on 21/5/21. I now have a satisfactory EICR dated 21/5/21 - but with no date written on the form for a future inspection (normally 5 years). There is no mention of a new consumer unit being installed on the EICR and i do not have a copy of the Domestic electrical installation certificate, nor a copy of the building control registration document.

As a tenant, you would be entitled to receive a copy of the EICR, but would not expect to receive the EIC or Building Control notification, unless your landlord for some reason thought he/she would like to share it with you.

A little odd that the next inspection date is missing on the EICR, normally it would be 5 years, perhaps accidentally missed off.

Edit: You can search the local authority planning registers for building control notifications, should you want to check notification was actually done.

The EICR doesn't have to state the consumer unit has been replaced but does ask for evidence of alterations so a yes/no with an estimated age. Is there a notice at the consumer unit stating the inspection and next inspection dates.

thank you.... there are two boxes/omissions on the EICR one says "next inspection enter interval......." this is blank. The second one says on what date the future inspection should be done by ... that says 21/5/202... I am concerned about the effectiveness of this survey and the Stroma electrician's knowledge... i have seen several NICEIC reports and they are 11 pages long. This one is 3 pages long and makes no mention of it being a landlords inspection. There is no date of installation on the CU. 2 days after the CU was installed all the lights in the house went out for no reason. The fact that i cannot find this mans name on any list of electricians also worries me. There is no date of installation on the CU.

Maybe you are worrying too much. The landlord has had a new consumer unit fitted by a part P scheme approved electrician. Seems like good news to me.
