I just got back from a job interview as a maintenance sparks at an R.A.F air base, 3 people interviewed me so it was quite intimadating at first,
About 45 mins into the interview i was told that i may be asked to do small plumbing jobs like unblock toilets, also painting, change tap washers etc and tiling.
The job details were electrical maintenance engineer needed to carry out installation work, fault finding, testing, ppm and reactive electrical maintenenace.
Im currently unemployed and just doing a few of my own bits so could really do with the work but for 22k a year for a qualified sparky and doing all these other bits and pieces i think takes the p155.
Is this the way things have gone now multi tasking slave labour???

My gripe though is can a painter do electrical work if an electrician is expected to paint??

No mate. Sounds like your gripe is not wanting to lower yourself to work that you think you're over qualified for.

If you're unemployed, why would you turn down 22k a year?

Some may think that I'm being too hard on you, but too many people nowadays are too picky about what they will and won't do to earn a living and lift themselves out of unemployment.

I agree with you handysparks, a job is a job and 22k is not too bad! Beats sitting round all day applying for jobs. At the end of the day, you may learn some new things and who knows who you will meet, and where or what that Might lead to?

has it not crossed your mind that it was an interview test to see how adaptable you are ?

and whats wrong with doing a bit of easy painting during the summer months if theyre still paying you top sparks rate ?

FFS

Who said i turned it down???
Its also not a case of lowering myself its more the fact that if these other bits they want were not on the job description.
My point is for 22k a year they want to much!!!

I agree but ÂŁ10/hr is not what you call top sparks rate, nevertheless it's still more pay than a painter gets :)

And no i dont want to do tiling plumbing or painting as i trained as a sparky but im prepared to do any work to make money.

I don't know, who's implying you've turned it down? Like I said earlier use this job as a stepping stone if it's offered.
