I just got back from a job interview as a maintenance sparks at an R.A.F air base, 3 people interviewed me so it was quite intimadating at first,
About 45 mins into the interview i was told that i may be asked to do small plumbing jobs like unblock toilets, also painting, change tap washers etc and tiling.
The job details were electrical maintenance engineer needed to carry out installation work, fault finding, testing, ppm and reactive electrical maintenenace.
Im currently unemployed and just doing a few of my own bits so could really do with the work but for 22k a year for a qualified sparky and doing all these other bits and pieces i think takes the p155.
Is this the way things have gone now multi tasking slave labour???

Don't really understand what's going on here, you all jump up and down about how low an electricians rates are these days or have a right set too on a given advert offering silly rates, and then have a pop at the OP making a point on exactly the same issue??

If you are answering an advertised position for employment as an electrician, why would you also be expected to undertake tiling, plumbing and painting, if no mention was made on the advertised position being a multi trade/discipline position??

It seems this is the way things are going, in that fully qualified electricians are being thought of and more importantly treated like semi skilled tradesmen....

This is exactly what i am implying eng54.
I knew the money before i went to the interview so thats not the problem here.... i just was not expecting to have to do the other jobs aswell as it was not on the description.
Im not on the dole either because as i said im doing a few of my own bits to keep ticking over but wanted to gain employment.
I would love to learn plumbing tiling etc from the professionals but this was not the job description!!!

these days working in an industrial or most other environments ur employer and other fellow workers will expect u do do non electrical jobs to help out, its a sorry state of affairs if u think ur too good to touch on another type of task.

in most interviews for industrial sparks u will get asked what would u do if there was no electrical work that needed doing, and they will expect you to say that you'll help the fitters.
