Not being horrible but if you are struggling with replacing a light fitting that you have taken down , all you had I do was connect the new one the same. Even if you were an apprentice you shouldn't even be asking this question unless you don't have any idea what you are doing with electrics. Get an electrician in and stop trying to do something which you perceive as a simple task. We train for a long time to be able to call ourselves electricians. Rant over

Hanging my head in shame... it's the C&G 2392 I took, genuine mistake. I didn't realise my error until you mentioned 3 phase. At the end of the day guys, I was just after some friendly advice. Whats the big deal?

I can't say I believe that either. The big deal is you are trying dupe people in order to save money.

So why don't you simply connect the new one as the old one was connected?? I think I know what's going on!

I think the old fitting incorporated a 3 plate rose, and the new one obviously does not, just has a choc block.

If there was enough space in the new fitting, he could have used Wagos to replicate what he had before.

Your best bet would be to identify each cable at the fitting, switching simple at the fitting you will only have feed in, out and switch 9 single cores once you have these locked you will know or be able to identify what solid yellow cable is and if needed

It sounds like the yellow is your switch wire and should be connected into the (L) terminal of the light and the two reds are permanent line conductors that should be connected safely to each other but not into the light fitting although there's no way of knowing for sure without testing the cables
Before connecting the light up this way you really need to test the cables so you know exactly what goes where without guessing! The fact that you're asking about something so simple shows that you're clearly unsure what you're doing so get someone competent to test it / re-terminate it for you so you don't kill yourself or someone else

Agree with above, looks like l&n come into fitting, then 3 core has been used as switch wire, red as switch/feed and yellow as switch/return. Not sure what blue is for, no neutral needed in switch, is it connected in switch?? I suspect dave from down the pub had no t&e left when he wired this so used his last dregs of 3core for switch wire. By the sounds of it if 3core for 2 way is in new colours someone has added the other switch at a later date
