Hi guys and gals,
Where is best place to get a 230V relay urgently? Never had to get one before.. its to switch between two 8A heating elements, from a domestic mains supply. I think the current one is on a din rail but its under a bath so there not a problem with space or mounting.
Thanks in advance..

Can you post a photo?

What are these heating elements and what controls them?

What testing have you done? ie., how do you know that the relay has failed?

Haven't got a clue! One element is normally connected and when the other is required / switched on then the first one presumably switches off automatically. There's one input with two terminals commoned and two outputs, with commons also..

If you are sure the relay is knacked disconnect it making sure you have some record of what goes where and have a look for the model number, RS would be my bet if it's a special

No sadly i didnt take a photo but its a little black box with screw terminals, 230v phase wire going in and two output wires, one to each of a 2kw heating element, both with thermostats.. Its in a mobile dog washing parlour trailer!!
thermostats work ok, elements are ok, around 30 ohms each, so 8A, IR tests are ok.. powered up and
just nothing coming out of load side of black box. Have temporarily by passed the relay or whatever it is, and at least one of the elements is heating ok now. The other element is meant for heating up overnight, so there is a tankful of warm water ready to go.. as its only a 13A supply, cant have the 2x8A elements on together. Is my logic ok?

Are there any wires apart from the 230V in and two output wires? If not, it's not any sort of conventional relay.

Why are there two heating elements if only one can be used at a time? Are they both heating the same water?

See#9. The second one is directly heating the bath ftom which a shower hose is pumped to wash the dirty pooch
I guess that one is for topping up.. but that's immaterial really. I need to restore it to how it was. Looks like I'll have to go back and remove the box.. I guess the other way is to rewire it as a two way switch.

Why not just plug in a new relay to replace the faulty one? Are you in a position to fully understand and accept the liability for making alterations to the control system of this appliance?
Guessing and assuming is no good, you need to understand what you are doing.

Your profile says domestic electrician, so I'm a little confused as to what you are doing working on a commercial installation?

ok, lets take these one by one..
a) if I knew which relay to use, I wouldnt be asking for help..
b) yes, particularly as I also have a diploma in engineering..
c) I do understand what Im doing.. its what I would like to do I need some help on.. otherwise I wouldnt be posting on the forum. Or is the forum only there to spout on about how good you are?
d) its a mobile 13A appliance plugged in to a domestic socket, not a commercial installation. unless you class anything plugged into a house socket is commercial?
.. and its no good giving guidance if you're confused, you need to know what you're doing! ha ha, sorry but i couldnt resist :confused5:

Oh I get that for sure. Here it's not the problem though. The oven is in very good condition, and works well, just the heating element is warped...
