I assume you copy/pasted this from somewhere else because the bbcode tags aren't recognised by this forum board. :(

What is this COLOR ?, me being from London, that means hard work. (collar)

We are currently refurbishing a flat to high spec

You're in London and obviously looking at turning over a quick massive profit.
Stop being a tight wad and pay someone to do the job for you instead of coming on here looking for freebies. :-------:

Sorry for that,

I copied the text from my email as it was hard to post text and attach images from a mobile.

I need an advice of how to make our electric board smaller. We have contacted
-our electricity provider British Gas. they changed the meter but did not reduce the size.
- our management company. They said they are not responsible but any qualified electrician can change it.
- UK Power Network. They said they only deal with main cable up to the building point
- our electrician said he will not touch main cable, meter and any connections.

so we are left with massive board from 1930s with no one taking responsibility or trying to make it smaller.

can anyone help with who is able to replace main cable connector with smaller meter?

Thanks in advance

Archy, I thought it was a forum of professional electricians...

I only need advice if anyone came across such issue. I have asked a few electricians as well as the one who is doing complete re-wiring and all send me to our power provider - British Gas... this is the only thing on the way and we can't install our kitchen due to the unit being too big. Time is what I'm lucking, not money.

You are responsible for the fuse box and it's connection to the meter.

You are also responsible for the safety of the electrical installation in the flat. This includes the safety of any electrician you employ to make changes.

The electrician will not work on the supply while it is live. You need to arrange for the DNO to either disconnect the power to the meter briefly OR to fit an isolation switch after the meter. Your electrician can then turn off the supply while he connects the new fuse board.

You need to take your electrician's advice about how big the fuse board needs to be and about any further protection that is needed if you want to move the fuse board away from the meter.

A competent electrician should have told you all this already, hence the other replies being to hire a good electrician.

Good luck

thanks a lot tlangdon12,

could you guide me who should I talk to in terms of disconnecting the main power. Who would be the DNO?

I have neighbour's electric board being reduced twice the size and now I'm trying to achieve the same.

Talk to your electrician.

So this is what I want to achieve but all electricians would not touch this part [ElectriciansForums.net] HELP needed with Electric/Fuse box My initial question was who can replace this to smaller unit?

That is the Main Cut out you want changing thats for sure not the electricians job

as for your neighbours installation I hope they never have to get into the main switch as its not going to happen from what I see in that picture lol

Thank you all for your replies.

Our DNO advised to look for a distribution board with all the flats and get management company/landlord or certified electrician to ascilate our flat to be able to work on dead main (replace the connection).

Has anyone come across disconnecting a flat from communal distribution board? Are electricians allowed to do that or this a special electric company required?

thanks again

it's up to DNO to do any work up to and including the meter.... from the meter on, it's down to your electrician.
