Help please,advice regarding the way electric shower has been wired and left

Not allowed to say who or where, as it was part of the settlement (im not supposedmto know) but the council erroneously cut my mums tree down once at the back ofmthe garden. They even eventually admitted ( after amlong protracted and stressful fight by my mum, withs legal rep) that they had screwed up. Would they replace the 30 foot tree? Would they eck.

my sisters boyfriends sisters husband happened to be a top lawyer that lead in winning for things just like this - he did it for free and wiped the court with them.

Hi guys, just a quick update to let yous know what's happening, tiler appeared at the door yesterday saying he had been told to just put up a new tile where the hole is, I told him I wasn't letting him do it, 1) I was just going out the door to dentist appointment, 2) Im not happy with him just doing that and I would rather wait as I want the team manager and my resident liaison officer to come and have a look at the standard of the work. Got a missed call from my RLO this morning, left a message saying she wanted to talk to me and left a number for me to phone back, ive been phoning every half hour, cant get her as it just rings and doesn't go onto an answering machine like its supposed to. The tiler was practically saying he was getting the blame for it, I personally don't think he's to blame.

You are correct, he is not to blame , having said that, was he meant to tile around the window reveal and ledge, because that should have been tiled/grouted and silicone sealed before any water was allowed anywhere near that window opening. Back to the install, the tiler has tiled and left a small opening for cable and water supply around these points, exactly as he/she is supposed to do , as is normal. he /she didn't plan this install, it was already done before tiler arrived on the scene ok he/she could have cut tiles to fit closer to entry point of said cable and pipe, however plumber /electrician should have noticed this when plumbing/installing/wiring said unit and rectified or reported this Or had a quick word with tiler to fill said hole with grout/silicone Or they could have requested that tile be removed and re-cut before shower unit was installed, thus eliminating possible ingress of water. Of course they didn't, they are probably on price work and were 20 flats away by the time you noticed it. This whole bodge is down to the person who planned the shower install and the contractor/s who agreed and carried out this typical council bodge. The council don't care if it looks ugly and will only last 6 months, as long as they can fill in a form to say 'property upgraded ', They Just Don't Care.

Hi there, I think I know where your talking about (what you can see in photo 3) To be honest I don't know if it was meant to get tiled, probably not, Ive got the RLO and team manager coming up in an hour which I thinks going to be a waste of time, when I was talking to the RLO yesterday, how they're really looking at is, 1) the showers working, 2) We can put a tile up and that will cover the hole, 3) So why have I got a problem with it? Toatlly disregarding the fact that its been installed incorrectly, because they don't think it has been installed incorrectly for the reasons given above.

Sorry but can someone tell me if im being unreasonable here? And am I right in saying it has been installed incorrectly? I mean it even says in the installation manual that the shower head has to be inline with the centre of the bath, also I am getting a puddle of water forming in the corner of the window ledge within a couple of minutes being in the shower, They're basically implying that cause the shower works and cause they can put a tile up to hide the hole that I shouldn't have a problem.

you are not being unreasonable. whoever is at fault, that installation is diabolical and needs to be fitted correctly. clear enough?

If they are being obstinate, let them outline to you why they consider the installation to be fault-free, and in an acceptable condition. Saying, "it works", isn't really good enough.

If I installed a socket for a customer (once I'm fully qualified of course) and it had sparks coming out of it whenever it was switched on, I could hardly say, "...well, it works doesn't it?"

I would not be happy with that at all so get onto them and make sure they do it right this time.When we done rewires for the council the clerk of works visited us twice a week and once we had finished.Have you got any pictures of the work in the kitchen?

Rough council jobs and Bodgers and scaprper merchants

The guys who do them are on time limits they expect rewires in 1 day which leads to shoddy/ incorrect work and not to the standards it should be

They should have removed the wooden window sill and tiled it and sealed as the water will penetrate and cause damp

Because the plumber has put the shower to one side this has now left the cable exposed and incorrectly routed as technically its now not run vertically to the shower as its now run to the side
needed to be a inch or so to the right so that it enters from the rear of the shower not the side
The shower should be to left or right hand side so that the outlet and shower rail can be installed in the centre so majority of the water would then cascade into centre of the bath and not all down the wall

I live in a council house and have tiled plumbed and wired my own shower lol

they are due to come and carry out proposed works on the bathrooms in my area which I will be refusing as its a better job than they would do as well as being tiled from floor to ceiling on all 4 walls

Ask them would they be satisfied with shoddy work like this in there house

It was same when they refurbed the kitchens
instead of lifting floorboards above kitchen they just smashed holes either side of joist notched it next to wall and ran the cables underneath

the cooker point and socket outlets was relocated and partially rewired they used JBs and jsut shived them up through the holes dog rough
the cooker cable came vertically down the wall and the switch would have been directly above the Hob which in case of emergency would have meant leaning over the hob to sitch off
I pointed this out to them and instead of moving the cable over a metre or so they instead elected to joint the cable out in the metal back box using connector blocks then ran horizontal to bew position then back into the original point and then down to the cooker outlet
they jsut installed a tile over the old position so the joint is not accessible

the sockets gradually get lower as you move round the kitchen
when questioning the works supervisor he didnt see a problem
I told him it looks as if the guy was drunk and as he gradually worked round the kitchen he sunk lower
the back boxes they basically bashed the brick into the cavity so the back boxes are only jsut reachable with long machine screws

Tiling is very poor basically its a complete botch

It was better before because at least the cables had no hidden joints and was possibly safer

and dont get me started on damp ads i have lived with it for 13 years of them trying all sorts of bodges to sort it out

removed a row of bricks outside were damp course is and installed some new damp proof memebrane but incorrectly
drilled and injected the same row of bricks
knocked plaster of 3 ft high
then plastered about 10 times each time telling me either incorrect plaster was used
plaster was touching floor
but no matter waht they do my wallpaper peels off on side of chimney breast
and external gable wall
after the first few years had eneough employed a solicitor spent a load of money waiting for letters from solicitors and council for about 5 years
lived upstairs twice for 18 months first time as they was supposed to be removing concrete fllor and installinga water proof memebrane they didnt jsut a small section near chimney as the concrete kept blowing up and same on the plaster on the front of chimney breast wall they just ashphalted it all, they told us it was done we had ordered new carpets for downstairs , hall, stairs and landing they were in storage in the shop from date of purchase we moved back down had carpets fitted then within 3 months paper was pealing carpet shrank away from wall grippers lost there glue bonding to the floor all of which had to come back up for them to have another play and 6 months second time
we had our own surveyor who proved it was in fact 100% damp on gable wall
chimney wall and the party wall between us and the neighbours
few more years of back and forth
while all the time we was questioning what was taking so long with soicitor
for them to come back after 5 years of being employed by us, to tell us the barrister has told him to end the case as its been going on to long
and here years later still trying to get them to sort it out
new paper on chimney breast wall is already pealing off and was done before xmas the back of the paper is black and the paper has shrunk
same on the gable wall
they have sent a inspector and then a damp specialist who upon using his probe says he doesnt understand it as its damp in one point but not another
My response if its damp in one bit and not another like within a inch or two of measurements gradually its coming back the gable wall in the corners will not paint

Anyway now you can see when dealing with councils you dont really get anywhere
at the time of having solicitors this was mostly paid for by my partner and I as they means tested us so we only got a small amount of legal aid towards the costs
so
the solicitor and barrister got paid for doing abosolutley nothing apart from sending a few letters to us and the counci a few thousand pounds of our money and same legal aid

pointed the apex at the top of the gable end , removed two tiles on roof all way round new felt here
there last attempt at the chimney breast was to send a wet nosed kid to knock the corner of the chimney re drill and inject then botch the plaster looked like some modern art depicting the waves of the sea
Yeah and he was qualified damp specialist or plasterer
he then used the existing attached corner bead, with existing attached plaster and all, to stick down and plaster over meaning the wall in now not square and in fact is over the grippers and carpet by a inch or so

they never reduced the cost of the rent why we lived upstairs but now our eldest daughter moved out decoded to charge us bedroom tax as its unoccupied thanks to the tory ???????

See if you can find a friendly electrician who will come look at it and write a brief report on letterheaded paper or whatever saying what's wrong with it (preferably quoting regs) and that in their opinion the installation is not to the Regs and so breaches Building Control.

Threaten to report the council to its own Building Control department for breach of Building Regulations, then the Council will find itself potentially having to sue itself and looking really flipping stupid.

Google for and familiarise yourself with the standards the Council is required to meet under Right To Repair and how to report them not meeting them. Make sure the Council know you are savvy about this. I've seen mentioning Right To Repair standards put a rocket up their jacksi before now.
