What's the main reason people don't think it's my electrics then? Is it the fact that the console goes a while before it ever happens?
Just call an electrician no one on here can give you a definite answer to what's happening so for your peace of mind check it checked

Telectrix means the supply.

So, I googled 'Nintendo Wii U shutting itself down.'

Country Selector at Nintendo - https://nintendoservicecentre.co.uk/support/wii/my-wii-shuts-off-on-its-own

This points to either unlicenced accessories or a damaged AC adapter causing the shutdown. When you exchanged the unit, did you change the AC adapter? Perhaps not.

In any event, I think this is certianly not an electrical problem to any longer concern the good burgers of ElectriciansForums with.

Hope all gets sorted out in the end!

EDIT: Plus what Danny said.

That link is for wii, not wii u. Incidentally though, nope I never had any unlicenced accessories on it.

The ac adapter could be a possibility though. I don't think nintendo replaced that, which is stupid if they didn't, if it's known to cause issues.

Logically, if the supply has a blip, it's the supply to your home. Everything would be subject to the blip. Computers and similar items (like clever TVs and recorders, etc) are more sensitive to such things.

In that case then I don't think it was a supply blip, because other devices upstaris, like my pc that I have on a lot of the time, remained on

I would go and buy an extension lead and power said gaming device from another socket...... And see what happens.

£5.99 at Argos

Did that. Same thing happened. The other socket being on the same outlet that is

My knowledge is limited so I can't word it right.

Got an electrician coming tomorrow anyway

Does the wii u have a little power supply like the wii does? If so and that hasnt been replaced then its probably that, if there was a loose connection you would expect other things on the same circuit to blink off at the same time

That's the AC adapter. And I don't think they replaced it, I just think they replaced the wii u with another wii u unit. I did try to find out. And I got this:

"We do not have any indication of the accessories or other devices being replaced, as there are no reports from our engineers about them having any faults respectively."

So that's even more confusing, because if it is the AC adapter, they didn't find any faults with it, hence not replacing it. Either that, or they didn't check, and didn't bother to replace it. Either way I will NEVER KNOW because of this :(

Well imo you need to try that, they may not have found a problem if it only happens on rare occasions, is be getting a replacement for peace of mind

I have a replacement coming. Unfortunately though, I will never get peace of mind, because I will be always panicing about it (and other things) shutting down now because it has sent my mind into a frenzy, catastrophising the whole issue. It's why I joined here, in a desperate attempt, to try and rule out the electric side of it.

I can't game with the 'uncertainty' of the issue happening. My OCD and aspergers and mental health issues make that extremely hard for me in particular.

That's why I am desperate to find a 100% answer on the cause of the issue. So I can either try to fix it, or work around it. But I can't find the cause :( It's all just eliminating possibilities, but these possibilities aren't getting truly eliminated, because there's no way to truly tell.

The issue happened on 2 different wii us, and I also tried 2 different extension cables and 2 different plug sockets (same wall outlet though). All the same issue.

The only possibilities are these:
1 - Something wrong with my electrics or that particular wall outlet.
2 - Something wrong with wii u's in general, but if this was the case, why the hell is nobody else on the entire internet reporting the same problem as me? I also have my wii u in an appropriate place, no dust, and it doesn't even overheat when it switches off either, it's not even warm.
3 - The AC adapter. (But according to Nintendo's jargon, it didn't seem to have a fault - if it was even looked at!)
4 - Nothing wrong with my electrics, however, my electrics just don't mix well with wii u's in particular (is this even possible?)

Ok well replacement Ac adapter for the Wii u is the last thing to eliminate with that by the sounds of it, google UPS you could get a small one of those its basically a big battery pack, then if the electrician also can find nothing wrong with your fixed wiring up to the socket, then if there was for any reason a power cut etc the ups would keep your Wii u running
