Just wired up a socket in my kitchen, don't worry I am part p qualified and 17th edition qualified, when I plug the kettle in the toaster blows the fuse box, I only have some silver foil and no fuse wire, will that be okay until I get to screwfix in the morning? or will I have to stick a 6" nail across it as I hear silver foil can be dangerous? thanks for your help fellow electricians, oh one last question do I need to Bond the kitchen sink even though it is plastic? I have looked in my on site guide and it doesn't mention anything and I need to get this right as I have a yearly inspection from Napit in 2 weeks time and want to show off this job to the inspector.

Try using a brass bolt to repair the fuse it may last until you get to screwitup, sorry screwfix in the morning, whe you are there you could ask if they have any plastic earth clips, some spotty muppet will probably go and look for some lol
I stuck a pencil in there the first time but the circuit wouldn't work, anyhow it is fine now, I removed the fuse completely and connected the red wire onto the busbar direct, it hasn't blown since but the mainswitch thingy is making a funny noise now.

Whooooa fella! Just stop for a minute!!

Dont plug that kettle n toaster in! Nip next door and borrow theirs n try them in your socket. If your still having problems tell your neighbour you'll be round for breakfast in the morning! :D If its all good, take your gear round to theirs n see what happens! If their socket blows you've scored for another job! Result!! :D:D

Other than that, looks like you're doing ok.

as you can't get the kettle to work, i'd go to eddy's for a long weight. a normal weight there is 1 hour, so with a long one, you'll be able to drink as much tea s you want from the machine that no doubt is fused with the nail, so it will never trip out.

If you want a long weight/wait, try Newey' s, pompey,...sheeeeesh!

You don't use a clamp on the plastic sink mate, you will break it!, use a plastic cable-tie instead, and as the sink is plastic you can just use the earth sleeving as well lol
I have decided not to bond the sink, there are no earth wires anywhere near it, even the cooker point doesn't have one, do you think the Napit inspector will pick me up on that?

Sounds like a major fault . Why not bypass the consumer unit and henley block the problematic piece of equipment straight to the meter tails .

Whats a consumer unit? I have just connected the red wire onto the busbar in the fuse box, it seems to be holding so should be okay until I get down to screwfix or B&Q in the morning thanks for all your help, can a moderator please close this now I have been helped by my fellow electricians?

Can you describe the 'funny' noise, my wife is nagging about how late I got back home after t&i tonight, so anything 'funny' would be most welcome at the mo...:)
