I know its not 100% correct but i always work on 1kw is 4amps and fuse accordingly. Sometimes i may be upgraded breakers / fuses when they probably (when worked out correctly) just comply....im going to the electrical equivalent of hell aren't i.

Its a good rule of thumb, and i do the same calculation. I also find that it helps with basic electrical theory for people who attend my PAT courses, and are not electricians. But it is just a rule of thumb, with Uo now being 230v, you could get pushed over the edge, if you adopt the calc as gospel.

Wirepuller, Holistic view on the Part P Domestic Installers Qual.

Kitchen Fitters and Joiners installing systems, the world needs to get real.
Jack of all trades master of none covers this scenario.
Qualified electricians should able to cover everything from Domestic Installations through motor conrol to full Automation, ie A switch is a switch regardless of what and how it controls the output, Direct or through PLC what the difference ?
Kitchen fitters and Joiners should stick to Wood Butchering and Pipework and tiling, and leave the complex trades to the qualified.
It is no wonder the trades are going Pear Shaped

Couldn't agree more mate....but part P is still not a qualification,it's a building regulations document......a domestic installer has to comply with part P....not pass a part p exam.

No, take 10.5kW shower.
10.5 x 4 = 42
10500 @ 240 = 43.75

However that works out to
9600 @ 230 = 42
which are the values that should be used so your rule of thumb is spot-on.
